Disco Mileage---- stopped working

Hi again everyone, just a quicky, a friends 96 Disco's mileage has stopped clocking up , has anyone any idea what would cause this and is there a sender unit that fails on the gearbox as on some other cars, what are they like to change , thanks again

I've had a quick look at the factory manual and it looks like there's a transducer on the gearbox that feeds the signal to the speedo and (guessing here) the odometer. My guess therefore would be that if the speedo is OK, the fault is in the speedo head itself.....
