Had a deposit on the gt3 in nottingham... drove the car today...the car is artic silver with 2k on clock. The opc were looking for list for car at 89700.. The deal fell through... i thought the car was not worth 32k sterling more than my 2s... the dealer would not drop a penny off the gt3...!! DONT think the gt3 is worth theses figures... think will wait till market settles...!! Very suprised they would only give me 58k trade in for my 997s which has top spec with the factory aero kit with only 5k on clock.. especially when i bought a gt2 off them last year...!!! My conclusion is that its a nice car and would have bought it at 27k to change not 32k.. Dealer sayed that they have a q of people to buy car..!! Not for me this time..!!

I'm guessing current owners would like to use their car during this summer coming. Then dump it before taking too big a hit on year 1 depreciation (8-10%?) or remain committed to it for another 6 months when the trackday season starts up again in March 08 and withstand another 5% loss... Besides, will the facelift 997 transition across to be a facelift GT3 for the 08 model year?

An item's WORTH is only what someone is willing to pay for it. If there are a q of people who will pay list price then that is the car's value at that particular time.

BTW, my OPC rang today (well yesterday actually as it's now 00:20am), to say my GT3 is to be built in week 1 of March and will land in the UK by the end of March

When did you see the car and pay a deposit ?

He's probably right, they may have other customers for it.
Mainly because they are pretty rare at the moment, but that's only a matter of time !

Maybe wait a little longer and see if the prices settle down somewhat.
Those are my intentions at the moment, but if they don't, then I'll be ordering new, to my own spec and take the wait !

Had deposit down on car within a few hours of them buying it... just by luck saw car on web... Just seemed a bad deal to me... didnt mind the fact of the gt3 having no discount it was the trade value of my 2s which annoyed me ....!!! 32k seemed too much to get into it...

Mine has just gone for list at four months old and 2500 miles on the clock. It was bought by a broker who already had a custommer who was presummably therefore going to pay over list. I think this situation only will last another couple of months at which point you'll suddenly be able to get cars at five percent below list which will turn into ten percent by the year end.

On the GT3 side although all the usual hype, actually IMO a bloody good car with an all round appeal , cud track it and still drive home as far as u like, would for once choose it against RS . Overseas last month had the same comparison 2 s and GT3 for a morning on long winding SAFE roads ............made good progress in both , driving and as a passenger both cars had similar adjustables , sport susp switch etc , frankly thought the GT3 was on another level when it came to sensitivity at the higher speeds ...............totally appreciate its a lot more dough to be piling in which undoubtedly will depreciate on both, but u ll see more for the GT3 when it goes pro rata to the s which will be even less the longer u leave it ...............dont see gt3 prices rushing anywhere for quite a while though

Mate, I think you're wise to wait - see my thoughts on values above - BUT, do not make the mistake of thinking the GT3 is just a little bit better than a 997S. It's so much better that it's not even on the same page - I couldn't believe the progress made with the PASM system alone, let alone the rest! It is well worth the price differential. An even more tasty prospect if you wait a wee while though I agree.

Im surprised you are surprised!OPc's are car dealers the same (or worse)than all car dealers..they want huge margins on cars and because of that they actually make the market hard to judge from a value point of view..you think your car is worth more because dealers are probably selling similar for so much more money. The fact you bought a gt2 from them will have no bearing imo whatsoever..a mate and i bought nearly 400k worth of cars from our local OPc over a 4 year period..still got crap bids for our cars on trade-ins.soapboxSell the s privately, wait a year for the gt3 and save 10k+.paperbag

Not sure, all I know is mine in 2nd car at my OPC. They have one possibly 2 more 07 cars both sold, and that's it till 08 year allocation - at least that's what they say at the moment !

It has to be said - he's spot on. Used GT3 for £10k off list next year will be awesome value against a fully specced new 997S IMO. I may well be back for one then.

I would say this but.....we should start trying to trade our cars like futures. For instance, I would sell my GT3 in 7 months from March for -5.5 from list. The buyer and seller agree a maximum amount of use and as long as the car has no accidents and is in the condition pre determined, the sale has to go ahead in 7 months. Obviously in that time they might make loads and the car is worth a bit less on the other hand everyone might catch onto the GT3 thing and you can only get them for 2 k off of list in 7 months.....

We could go even deeper and start spreading our cars if someone you know has a better car or worse that you might like to own one day.

This may unhinge the dealers prices.

Right thats it, im opening a site......

Just an idea.

Iv started a thread with this as i wonder if anyone would like to get involved with me(not in a rude sense) and see if this can be done.

LOL - i have a new Cayenne coming on the first of march, the OPC in question are not interested in my 2 year old cayenne which i bought of them new. The best price they will offer me is 3k under book. Loyalty does not count as i have had 4 cars of them in 2 years and 6 in total.

That would be its market value, not the same as its intrinsic value.
Both matter, of course.
