Armed Assault - PC
Discussion
I've got it (from gamestation or something). If you've played the slightly buggy and annoying demo, then disregard it & just get the game.
Its extremely massive and detailed. Haven't played flashpoint so I can't give a comparison. However, I have been playing a few games and it is great fun. Much more realistic than BF2 & suchlike from the bullet richochets, ease of being killed & injuries to some of the neat effects: weather, time, ability to destroy anything on the battlefield (from demolishing buildings to flattening the grass you're crawling over), focus effects when looking at near & far objects through a scope etc.
You can build your own missions - I think that will be one of the big things: modding & building missions. This game has massive scope.
Its a bit of a heavyweight game & probably requires some good hardware to really get the most out of it. However I have found some advice for getting it to run well & look good on the ARMA forums. For example, it has been found (and it works well for me) that with SLI the game runs with up to twice the FPS if you use the nVidia FEAR profile (ie. rename your Arma executable to FEAR.exe) as it has efficient driver optimisations. Presumably at some point someone will release a specific optimized ARMA SLi Profile.
Right now the UK version is 1.4, the Euro version is 1.2 & in the next week or so they're all being unified with the release of the 1.5 patch. As a result, right now there aren't a huge amount of online servers. I mostly am looking forward to some big online battles though so far I haven't seen anything quite like that yet.

Hey thanks for that Big T.
I will do some more boy scouting for it. I want but cant get my hands on it. Sooner buy via a shop then Iweb. Hot sticky hands and all that.
So it will need a 1.5 patch as soon as i can get it.!

I know what you mean man, if I want a something, I want to go out & get it there & then!
Also, patch I believe is actually gonna be 1.05 rather than 1.5, but just search for latest update for UK version online and you'll see it.
Good luck with your search

Got it off amazon in the end. (so much for hot sticky hands) but it was £20 ish so good price and I was away for the weekend so it was waiting for me in Mondays post.
Had a bash last night, had to turn down quite a lot of detail but so far so good. Its rather hard...... Love the blood. Cant get rid of the BNP's in the first mission. Will have another bash tonight. Keep getting shot. Aghhh.
Yes - 1.05 (1.5). Will patch it at weekend.

getting better at it now. Also had a bash at multiplay last night which was interesting. Very different to BF2.
I like the way the people now dont stick out like a sore thumb against the background, much more realistic. The distance view/slight blur works well. Im Gradually turning up the graphics levels which is giving good results, nice details on buildings, trees, etc.
Love the sounds of different gunfire in the distance.
Multiplay is always better than bots.
Patch is out on March 2nd,

My home internet is down right now so I've been playing about with making missions & arranging large battles with the AI. It really is great fun. You're right about the sound effects - the way you can tell if bullets are flying towards you or away gives a great feeling of realism (not that I've ever been in a war or anything! haha)
