Is this the XV8R

I went along to the general test session at Donington today and I struggled to work out what this is:
I thought it was the XV8R that finally raced at Donington last August but it looks slightly different to that car and the XV8R website disappeared weeks ago for some reason. It was massively fast, especially in a straight line and sounded fantastic. Can anyone put me out of my misery and tell me what it is.

Looks Peugeot to me as well........
And they are racing a diesel this year....

It sounded like a highly tuned V8 and was very loud indeed.

According to an article in Autosport (25th January 2007) the car is a Peugeot 407 Silhouette owned by Chad Motorsport. The team have actually bought two of these cars and will be running them in the 2007 Belgian Touring Car series. You are right thought the cars do look and sound great.
Heres a pic that I managed to get of the car passing the pits.

Autosport obviously know a hell of a lot more than I do but that car seemed to be much faster than a touring car.

Edited to add: Forgot to say, excellent shot by the way. I stayed in one place for all mine, which was next to the car so I could keep jumping back in it to stay out of rain and cold.

I'm fairly qualified to answer this one...
The car is, indeed, a Peugeot 407 Silhouette which will be raced in the BTCS championship in Belgium this year. The cars were built in 2005 by the Pescarolo team, who do so well in sportscars, and were raced in the French Supertourisme series - which they won. Last year they were run in BTCS by a Belgian team, who have since sold them to us.
The engine is a 3.2 V6, developing about 400bhp, and the cars weigh about 950kg. The rather odd exhaust note is partly a product of the length of the exhausts, which are straight through side-exit pipes only about 18 inches long! There are no noise regs in Belgium...
Despite some comments above, it's not a Max Power car by any means. Underneath the vaguely 407 shaped body is a mid-engined spaceframe, with 'proper' double wishbone suspension at both ends.
Yesterday's test didn't show its full potential by any means - we're down on power and still working on chassis development. We're also running without the '07 aero package, which will be a bit more DTM oriented.
No, I'm not the driver, but I am its race engineer.

! I thought the car sounded superb and it already looked like it was very quick. The Autosport article mentioned previously suggested the car was being run by Chad, but in your profile there is a link to the Eclipse website. Does this mean Autosport are wrong? No, they're right, it's a Chad Racing car.
I'm just a motorsport whore - will do anything for money...
Am still involved with Eclipse - the GT3 Mosler will be shaken down in the next week or so.
