Good morning. Need some advice from those who know! Once the car becomes totally cat free, are there any other mods I should make to keep it smooth and reliable? I dont' want it to go pop on me.

A full decat will be fine. You should gain an extra 30BHP out of it. The car won't run lean so don't worry about it. The turbo will spool up quicker as well so is defiantly worth doing.

Is your car a classic or a 01+ (bugeye). If it's the latter it will have a cat in the up pipe to, plus the one straight after the turbo and the one in the centre section. So that will be 3 cats. If it's a classic it'll only have two.

You will need to keep the centre cat pipe to put back on to pass the MOT.

I've got a classic Impreza WRX (1995) and I've had the turbo up pipe and centre decat fitted, it makes a whole world of difference! The spool-up is very very quick now. I just need to get the main downpipe section de-cat now.

I've asked a few MOT testers at the dealer I work at, if you have an Import Impreza upto and including 1995 then no Cats are needed at all to pass an MOT, they have confirmed it as well for me.

All Imprezas (Import and UK) from 1996 onwards are required to have a Cat.

Early classics have two Cats, according to other Impreza owners, the later classic (facelift 1997 - 1999) have just one on the downpipe.

1999/200 still had two. One in the down pipe one in the mid section.

In answer to the O/P, A remap will get slightly more from the advantages of decatting but isn't necessary and maybe worth a few more selective upgrades before going down that route to save doing the job twice.

may need to be wary on the pre 1995 cars not needing a CAT for the MOT as pre 95 skyline GTS's were not on the VOSA database but GTR's were.

now the GTS's have been added and cat's now needed.
