Cheapest 996 GT3?
Discussion
Hi All,
I've been offered an early LHD 996 GT3 from Japan and it seems cheap but I can only base that on what's for sale at the moment.
I know this has been discussed (argued?) at length before on here, but what were the cheapest anyone has seen over the last six months and do you think they will depreciate much more?
Cheers,
Bryn.

Hope this doesn't end in tears, Bryn. Last person I know that brought in a used car from Japan (Supra) that seemed conspicuously good value ended up with something that had been badly abused, with a chassis that was doing a damned good impression of a banana in terms of both shape and rigidity.

Popping myself onto this thread so that I know if something outstanding comes up. There is an LHD available (comfort) for 39k. Bit on the high side I think, but its from a dealer.
Looking for a MK2 myself, any thoughts on price there?

There are plenty of '03 cars being offered for sale at the moment, most are sticking. You should be able to buy a good '03 car with approx 25K miles for £45k privately. A 2003/53 MK11 with 14k miles was sold at Leeds OPC a few weeks ago for £49,995.

I am hoping to pick one up with higher miles (doesn't worry me - engines are prety damned solid) for 40k. I reckon that should see the depreciation monster off...
P.s. Interesting kit her to make your Gt3 look like an RSR. Never seen one in real life, must look the doggies!

I sold my 3.2 to a guy in Germany last year. He told me he'd bought a stuffed GT3 and was going to repair it and ship it out of Germany to make the history hard to trace. Caveat Emptor and all that (IIRC the car was green FWIW...)
Thanks for the advice - I have quite a bit of experience of buying cars from Japan and I have dealt with these people a number of times before so hopefully all will be well! I have heard of it being a dumping ground for ropey cars though - I believe a lot of Astons with reliability and build quality problems ended up over there in the 80s, and I am sure what the guy in Germany mentioned has happened plenty of times. Luckily this one was registered from new in Japan and even if it is a bit rough around the edges its cheap enough not to matter really. It looks well looked after though so I'm quietly optimistic
Cheers,
Bryn.

Interesting indeed - However, given the amount of piss-taking the GT3 boys on here indulge in when someone mentions stock 996's with a GT3 bodykits, I'm not sure that any of them would leave themselves wide open to having the piss taken out of them by fitting an RSR bodykit and making their car look like something it isn't

Did I read once that there is real kudos in Japan in having a LHD car - they are seen as more exclusive / more genuine as everyone there has RHD cars?
I've heard this also and that prestige marques like porsche recieve a premium for lhd. I'm surprised at the OP saying he's getting a great deal on lhd from jp.
