I want a set of clear front highlights, can anyone tell me if the us spec lights are in anyway different from the European ones? Also will a set of lights off a left hand dive car fit a right hand drive car?
Thanks

LHD and RHD parts will fit... but beam will be incorrectly aligned...

i got mine from speedart.co.uk, then sold the old ones to a porche breaker in Brum for £100.

off the top of my head it cost me a couple of hundred all in.

fitted in 1 minute and very easy to do, as they need to come out for bulb change

On a related note - does anyone know if it's possible to change the standard Boxster lights to litronic/xenons? - I understood from OPC that they won't do it - something to do with the wiring loom.

Also, is it possible to fit the headlamp washer jet system to cars which don't have it already?

If this has already been answered elsewhere sorry - but please tell me where!

You can fit the litronics however you need a wiring loom kit to fit them. The only drawback is that they do not come with headlamp levelling (which might be a legal requirement) and you may need the washer system (A legal requirement on new cars). It doesn't integrate with the computer either for fault codes, not that it matters.

Some of the Porsche and HID specialists do an all in solution for about £500 using the original headlamp units - essentially a bulb swap.

This is true:

The Litronics are self leveling and all the gadgetry to back this up is loacted within the suspension - very complicated.

However, you can retro fit Litronics to a non-litronic car, but without the levelling, will fail the MOT.

Litronics LHD/RHD are the same - they have a switch to determine which way the beam points. Non-Litronics DO NOT have this switch. Therefore, you must buy the correct drive derivitaves, so be careful if purchasing 2nd hand.

Clear 911(996) Lamps and 03 Spec 986(Boxster)lights will fit any model 996/986 etc. Simple slide in/out.

You can fit the washer system, but it will need electrics etc. Not impossible, but would only do it if you can DIY, or it will cost! See www.boxa.net for more details.

If you were to fit a set of left hand drive clear 996/boxster head lights what would happen? Would it simple be a case of the drivers side light having a further range than the passengers? Or would the alignment be all wrong and the light would be use less? Any info would be appreciated

Cheers

I don't know the answer to this and it's something i've wondered myself. You can change the horizontal and vertical alignment quite a lot on these lights with the allen key. But is it enough to get a decent spread of light?

It would be like driving on the continent.

i.e. the beam would be just as good, but point towards and dazzle oncoming traffic. Also, it would fail the MOT.

Some people on the US Sights have opened the sealed lights to do wierd stuff. MAYBE and it is a MAYBE, you could get some cheap clear LHD's, open the pair up and transfer the clear parts to the RHD bases. Never tried it myself, but possibly could be done.
