I've just been up in Orkney, got family up there, anyway the road up is great fun and its a lovely place. Any Orcadian PH'ers?

Plus they make some nice whisky up there too

My family and rellys are all Orcadian. We left in the 70's but still have loads of family there. Didn't you take a picture of the famous ttt sign?

one of my fave poems is about Orkeny, Its written by a mechanic based there in WW2

Bloody Orkney
This bloody town's a bloody cuss
No bloody trains, no bloody bus
And no one cares for bloody us
In bloody Orkney!

The bloody roads are bloody bad
The bloody folk are bloody mad
They'd make the brightest body sad
In bloody Orkney!

All bloody clouds, all bloody rain
No bloody kerbs, no bloody drains
The Council's got no bloody brains
In bloody Orkney!

Everything's so bloody dear
A bloody bob for bloody beer
And is it good? - no bloody fear
In bloody Orkney!

The bloody flicks are bloody old
The bloody seats are always sold
You can't get in for bloody gold
In bloody Orkney!

The bloody dances make you smile
The bloody bank is bloody vile
It only cramps your bloody style
In bloody Orkney!

No bloody sport, no bloody games
No bloody fun; the bloody dames
Won't even give their proper names
In bloody Orkney!

Best bloody place is bloody bed
With bloody ice on bloody head
You might as well be bloody dead
In bloody Orkney!

Thats not a nice poem! funny though hehe I didnt take a picture of the ttt sign, think ive got an old film picture of it somehwere though. I heard the sign isnt there anymore because people kept pinching it! The wave picture is from the ferry on the starboard side as it was leaving what is known as Hoy Sound and heading to Scrabster. The beach that the wave is rolling onto is called Wharbeth, (I think thats how its spelt) its the beach just over the hill from Stromness. The beaches up there are fantastic with proper blue clear water, just a shame its a little chilly most of the time!

Not quite, but a Thurso chiel, and you're right about the road!

Need to go back there one day, can trace one side of my family to south ronaldsay - most have either left for mainland scotland or are no longer
