I'd like to buy Mrs Rich a days course using a skid-panas as a gift,
or similar thing
either on a wet surface or the car on skid wheels frame

does anyone know where its done in Northants,
she's often mentioned it when it appears on a TV programme.

Great idea for a pressie, couldn't spot anything in Lancashire though ?

Given the different options of cradle/ skid pan, which training sessions most realistically simulate driving in adverse conditions ?

tocwith york might be the nearest google tocwith driver training

there is one at sandiway cheshire but it doesn't get public use

staffs police on their web site also offer it about £70 (or did)

great fun

usless above about 15 mph as 9/10 you don't have the space

The race silverstone lot do it there. I spent 5 days on the race training programme which included a little training on an audi in a cradle, and loads in a caterham with special skid tyres on the back. It was the best bit on the course and taught me loads

Actually thinking about it I don't know whether they do the "high speed" skid pan stuff (in Caterhams) as a separate course. If not they should. I'd go back just for that.

No
Mrs Rich expressed a unusual sentiment regarding improving her
driving skills,
so I'm striking while the irons hot
an Audi will do

Good idea thumbup

I did the same for my wife a few years ago. The course saved our lives.

Shortly after the course, my wife had to take evasive action to keep a 17 year-old scrote in his Nova from killing us. In doing so, the car skidded on the wet and muddy road. However, she saved the skid and retained control of the car.

Thanks to Skid Control at Goodwood www.skidcontrol.co.uk thumbup

Or possibly 'three birds with one stone' if you get her the Skid & Drive course, which includes an intro to roadcraft alongside 1:1 skid tuition

My IAM lot go down to Skid Control in Goodwood (cost effective group session) and I've done a 1:1 course there trackcraft and skid-control (helped get me sorted for going on track days). I can recommend them.

Make sure your Mrs goes dressed in old clothes and a pair of trainers she doesn't care about. The pan is very oily and you can't help but get some on your shoes and probably your clothes. It does wash out.
