Just topped up the oil in my 997. However, when I undid the oil cap the inside of the cap and the top of the hose were covered in what can only be described as horrible dark yellow gloopy stuff.

Being a banker I know sod all about engines.... Is my 997 about to go pop?? Anything I need to worry about or do??

Cheers - Erik

i think you will find this is normal and is due to condensation in the oil filler tube,as long as there is not too much emulsifier

It may well just be condensation..do you do short trips most of the time? Maybe worth running it to OPC to take a look, but unless you have oil in your coolant, loss of performance. Just whipe it all claen and take the car for a good 100 mile run.

It's fine.

Mine does exactly the same, as did my previous 996 C4S.

Sounds like too many short journeys, get out and drive a good distance, and do it regularly!

Cheers guys.

The car is used as a daily driver so does lots of short trips (daily commute into London, etc). Will have to go for a longer blast me thinks..

Cheers - Erik.

Same with mine-I was worried though so gave it a 100mile blast on the motorway and hey presto-all ok again.

Thats true you would have a very nice clean filler cap, sadly attached to a slower inferior car, but heay you cant have it all ends up can you!
