My Mum was unfortunate enough to drive through a very deep submerged pothole just outside her village yesterday.
Both the wheels on the passeger side are severely buckled and the tyres are shredded.
Mum's in a state of shock and severely hacked off.
I'm going to arrange a new set of alloys & tyres for her tomorrow, but I reckon there won't be much change out of 300 quid.
So, I'm going to have a word with South Bucks Highways dept. but am I likely to get them to cough up for the damage??

My girlfriends Dad has successfully claimed.

The long and short of it is that you have to prove that the people responsible for the road have been negligent.

This usually comes down to if someone has already complained about the pothole and it has not been repaired yet. If that is the case as has been said its just a case of following the correct procedure.

Yes, as long as you follow the correct procedures and provide the right evidence.

Its been done to death on PH - as long as the search function is working you should be able to find heaps of info.

Does "search" work on here? I've not been able to find anything using it.

I know it's been said before, but photograph everything, the pothole, the damage etc. And include a standard object in the shot of the pothole for scale, (12 in or 6 in ruler is a good one).

This is my thread (and another one linked on there) for when I hit a pothole in 2005, caused about £1500 worth of damage to my TVR.
It wasn't the highways at fault though - turned out to be Anglian Water using dodgy contractors.

Best advice is to take as many pictures as you can before they get a chance to come and fill in the hole - including measurements as to how wide/deep it is. Get quotes for the work and do not back down, take them to the small claims court if necessary.

Thanks for the replies chaps, photos of the hole have been taken, I shall take a few shots of the buckled rims too. (Which cost over £150 each!!!)
