Dear diary, here's my week so far:

Monday. The V8S cut out on the way into work while sitting in traffic. Eventually traced to the fuel pump inertial cut out having triggered. Why on earth?

Tuesday. Dropped it into Tower View to replace the front wheel bearing that collapsed on the way home on Monday.

Wednesday lunchtime. Collected with shiny new wheel bearing, set off back to the office. Got as far as junction 9 and it developed a severe misfire, spent a while trying to diagnose it and couldn't, so limped back to Tower View on five cylinders. Turns out the vac line had dropped off the fuel regulator and the engine had flooded. Why did the pipe decide to fall off now and not in the last 120,000 miles? Reattached, new plugs and all sorted. Too late for work so I set off for home. Got as far as J12 this time, then it cut out, restarted, cut out again and didn't want to know. Finished the journey on the back of a break down truck at 11pm.

Thursday. Lots of detective work over many hours, and lots of calls trying to match part numbers that nobody recognised. Replaced the coil and it would start but cut out after a couple of minutes. Replaced the ignition module and it would run more or less OK but not idle. Back to Tower View for some more TLC, at least it was under its own power at this point, although not too happy. Replaced the coil for the right sort, replaced the snubber diode between the dizzy and the ECU, re-calibrated the air flow meter, running happily again. Phew.

Friday. I wonder?

Sorry to hear about your troubles - there is a line of thought that says you only appreciate things properly when they are taken away - and after my start to ownership I would tend to agree - got mine back today so am hoping the weather people have got it wrong and that it stays sunny.

Chin up look on the bright side - you actually own what is only a dream for most people.
