Looking at going the 996 turbo route circa 2004. Are there any model changes/facelifts/issues I should be aware of and what essentials should it have from the options list. Is tip/manual just a personal choice and will it affect resale. Lastly, is it the general view that turbos have sort of bottomed out in price terms. Views on the car as a daily drive would be helpful. Thanks guys.

I dont know about prices bottoming out but there does appear to be some support in the low forties for low mileage ,proper history nice cars.TT has to be manual imo however that is a personal choice but i do think over time manuals will become more expensive relative to tips(seem to be a lot of tips for sale comparitively.)From a daily drive point of view the car is ok apart from its obvious practicality issues..very reliable, easy to drive,safe...and most of all very quick.imo no need to go for an 04 car(unless you are struggling to find a good older one)as all 996tt's from inception very similar(slight upgrades in 02).Best car ive owned by a long way ( and ive had quite a few).thumbup

I think the TT is perfect for an every day car, IMO I'd go for a manual but each to their own. Sadly mine goes up for sale next week to make way for a 4 door car!!!!!!!

Joint the queue am also looking for a tt at the mo. also considering a c4s. anyone care to offer advice etc feel free to email me. As a matter of interest whats the servicing cost etc on said cars? things like clutch ware and replacement are also important as i will be using the car daily through heavy traffic..

I think you can expect around 40k miles out of a clutch on average and should pay around a grand to replace one at an indie.

Servicing is pretty normal for a Porsche.

All the modifications you'll make to it will cost a fortune.

my preference would be for a manual too.

at the moment it is a buyers market if you fancy a silver tip because there are loads of both.

As KayC said, I too believe manuals will be more sought after in the years to come.

The car itself had little fettling during the years. In late 2002 it received a "facelift" which was nothing of the sort. Not sure of exactly what was changed but one of the significant chages was the introduction of the PCM2 sat nav - which looks and works are better than the PCM1 unit (IMHO)

these changes were introduced for the 2003 model year - so from 52 plate onwards, but beware there are a few 52 plate 2002 cars coming onto the market at the mo.

2003 MY cars are, I believe, more desirable if sat nav is fitted
