Morning all,

I have an intermittent fault on my Yaris which is causing the diagnostics light to come on. I think I have remedied the cause but I'm loathed to take the car to a dealer to get the fault cleared. It cost me £35 the first time at a dealer in the SW (I was away on business) but my local franchise wants about £45 apparently. There's no absolute gaurantee that the problem is solved and that I won't have to fiddle about a bit more, then have the fault cleared yet again (£45) etc

I'm aware that fault code readers are available from places like Halfords for a few quid but I'm really after something a bit more advanced that will allow me to clear the 'cache'.

Any recommendations?

Think this may be what he had in mind.
Bit drastic I would have thought.

P0133 - Slow responding O2 sensor. On Thursday last week when I got the error I wasn't aware of the whole fuel situation that has now come about. I usually put Shells finest in but in a moment of weakness (and convenience) I bought a tank from elsewhere.

I didn't have any rough running or lack of power as has been reported in the press and Toyota didn't recommend a change of the sensor either. I have cleaned the MAF which is apparently (according to the TOC) a common cause of these error messages and have brimmed it with V-max but I need to get the current error cancelled to see if its worked.

O2 sensor fixing at mid voltage is consistent with silicone poisoning which is the suggested problem with this bad fuel problem

find someone with an EOBD/OBD2 scanner and they will be able to turn the light off for you but if the sensor has been poisoned by silicone then it will have to be replaced - also be aware that if the fuel in your tank is still duff you'll be back to square one very quickly and cats don't like silicone in their diet either

good luck

Just as a quick update - I ended up getting a Geniscan GS300 reader which is great and cost me less than a visit to the main dealer.

Thanks for your input, hope the problem is now solved :fingerscrossed:

Thanks for the update Doug, dont know if its just me but
so many posts that pose questions and get answers seem
to fizzle out without the author posting final fix's
or solutions found.
Think we are all lumbared without one of these readers
for the daily eurobox drives, where did you get it from?
Cracking looking S you have.
Cheers Ian

Hi Ian

I got mine from everyones favourite auction website. There aren't any listed at the moment so keep an eye out. I initially thought that I'd need something quite advanced to enable me to clear the fault rather than just read it but it appears I was wrong and this little jobbie does the lot. Comes with a book listing all the codes and on a CD too which is handy.
