Hello folks Im currently changing my inlet manifold and trumpet base for a port and polished version im guessing from a 500. Ive encountered a few small challenges along the way and could do with a bit of advice.
The inlet from the 450 has a different layout from the new.

Theres a water pipe rail running along the bottom of the 500 but not on the original? is this just a different inlet and outlet for the coolant?.
Theres also no green temperature sender in the 500 its blanked off but there is in the original?

any suggestions or advice would appreiciatedbounce

You can do anything with enough time & patience... If I'm lucky I'll get another "wot e said" from a real expert

AFIK you could change the plumbing.. Not sure the inlet ports are going to match up manifold/heads tho. Had you planned any of this? You may be better getting more compatible parts unless you really like tinkering & its not a problem to keep the car off the road. IMHO you are delving a bit deeper into the engine than the ACT bolt on goodies, and should do it with your eyes wide open (not meant to sound dismaying ~ just realistic)

Dave the inlet manifold matches the heads. The mod was planned as much as i could with out removing the actual manifold. I agree the ACT stuffs is good but you shouldnt worry about delving a bit deeper into the engine. Worst case i have to get a mechanic in to finish off, its also an excellent excuse to buy a 500 enginelaughlaughlaugh

How can you know the ports match?, or am I missing something? Yes you can bolt it all together, but unless the ports on the head match the new inlet (which as a 500 part would be matched to the BV heads to my understanding) it will probably be a bit of a waste.. Removal & port matching of your heads is not trivial, except for a few talented chaps. Sticking 500 heads on with the inlet manifold & poss cam change is an extremely sensible upgrade ~ getting into 10 bolt vs 14 bolt heads / different inlet manifolds does seem to be making it a tad challenging ( just the kind of sh1te I keep dropping myself in ).

That sounds darned good excuse hehe

OT, but in my honest opinion forget messing with TVR engines they are all pretty darned good ~ trash the bloody ecu and get something with mappable ignition, its money far better spent I'm sure.

Dave

last time I investigated this option I was quoted (IIRC) about £2K to supply and fit OMEX, and that excluded r/r setup time.

Anyone got any lower prices ?

Check the current "DISTRIBUTORLESS IGNITION" thread on the Griff forum, Mike.

Joo does Emeralds if you want an 'off the shelf' or installed.
If you want to go DIY Dave Blades has a guide to VEMS installation, prob on the Griff pages.

The pre serp will fit reasonably easily, from memory its just a case of plumbing that is the difference, although its been a while since I have played with a pre serp setup.

Its obviously quite difficult to go through the whole job via this post (and my typing speed is pretty slow!) so please feel free to ring me if you need any help or encouragement in real time so to speak.

Hope this helps, have fun!

What's the difference? I assume you don't mean the GEMS setup.
