Having problems with emissions and MOT. I have read previously that the MOT bible has a section which states that there is some leniency for some TVR models. The emissions on mine are close to complying but fail at tickover .There are complications which I would prefer not to go into on a public forum.

If anyone recalls the previous thread or has any information I would be very grateful. My mechanic tells me that the tester was in two minds whether to pass it but neither of them were aware of the possible exceptions that can be made for TVR's.

Please help!

Steve.

PS Its a V8S.

Thanks TVRgaas. If I cant get it sorted out locally I'll give Harry a call. It's just that I'm sure someone on here was adamant that there was a section in the MOT testers manual that specifically mentioned TVR engines. Maybe I'm just going bonkers.

Steve.

Hi Harry,

Yes I think that's the solution.thumbup My mechanic tells me the tester was rather young and a bit of a jobsworth at the local place whereas he thinks the more senior chap at the testing station ( who is off with a broken arm ) would've passed it no problem.

Incidentally how frequently did you have it serviced? I've probably done a couple of thousand miles since buying it. Not sure whether it could do with an interim service soon.

Any news on the Cerb?

Steve.

Good to hear it only needs experience to sort the emissions out for the MOT, don't forget if you have space now I still have the old manifolds and Y piece.

Re the servicing, check the very large wad of bills in the big box folder I gave you hehe, but yes service once a year, its due about now (hence the MOT too). I normally went for full service every time as the difference was once a £100 or so squid, no point in scrimping hehe.

No the cerb is not ready, taking a little longer than expected hehe but it should be the better for it. I'm doing a lot of the development work that will benefit future AJP8 rebuilds. Luckily I agreed a turn key price so whilst I'm waiting I'm getting the best available and Paul gets an engine to play with. Its on its 4th/5th or 6th rebuild lost count hehe but is fully together now and on the bench dyno again, hopefully this is the final build spec, if so it'll be in the car in the next couple of weeks or so. Fingers crossed I'll be able to drive it and not crash it hehe.

It's gone, I thought he would have e-mailed you. Anyway nice to see your after sales service.
I just thought that you might have a suggestion after those hours on the Rolling Road.
Cheers.

The after sales warrantee has run out, but I'm more than willing to help where I can hehe. Glad to see the only problem has been a weeping hose which it had when I sold it thumbup

Right service and MOT it is then. thumbup

I've put some 17" wheels on it now which really suit the car (IMHO) so will put up some pics in the near future.

Christ still TVRless Harry! You must be champing at the bit. Still you'll probably have one of the most powerful AJP8's on the road so the wait will indeed be worth it!! FFS keep it on the tarmac till you get used to 4-500 bhp through the rear wheels!!

I may take you up on the old manifolds etc. Bit busy at the mo.. got a stag weekend in Austria Friday beerand will be without the car the following week. I'll drop you a line soon.

Steve.

Harry's idea of Service and mot is a good un.

The new oil and filter will often lower emissions just a little .. maybe that's all it needs.

Throw in 1/2 a bottle of stop smoke into the oil, then a bottle of fuel system cleaner into the fuel (higher concentration than the bottle says) - then drive it for 30 miles and book it back in for the MOT, then on route to the MOT make sure you thrash it to clean the pipes out.

It will pass then.
