Is a book by Peter Filby........ does anyone happen to have a copy they would like to lend to a very trustworthy student?

There was a copy in my local library, but that building is closed until May because of an asbestos problem

It's funny, that chap used to be a neighbour of my mothers and I met him a couple of times whilst I was down visiting her, he also had a little kit car place at the bottom of the road. Funnily enough I did not know about that book until a few years later and once I had bought my first tivver, name rang a bell and I suddenly realised who it was. Copies are fairly rare and fetch silly money if they come up for sale, sure someone on here will have a copy but sadly not me so can't help sorry .

I have seen a copy on an American site i think, and they wanted over £100 - I don't need it that badly! But it would be useful

Afraid I don't have that book, but if you're interested in other books to research from I have the following that I would be happy to let you borrow, as you came with a good character reference from my friends Roger & Scott after BT&P!

TVR Muscle & Curves by Iain Ayre
TVR's Volume 2: Tasmin to Chimaera by Graham Dobson
TVR: The Complete Story by John Tipler
TVR 1980-1996 Road Tests & Articles by Trevor Alder
TVR Gold Portfolio 1959-1990 (Road tests, etc) by Brooklands Books

and, if you're feeling technical, a copy of the Steve Heath Wedge Bible.

Also about 10 years worth of Sprint magazines!

Cheers

I do not have a copy of the book. It was published in 1976. The last one to sell on e-bay (last December) went for £53.00.

Presently someone in the US is asking via e-bay an ambitious $189.99 for their copy.

The TVR on the book's dust jacket has the TVR 100 number plate on it.

Thank you so much, that would be fabulous!! If you're sure you don't mind

It's for my dissertation you see... eek I know... who'd be crazy enough to write 10,000 words about TVR and their marketing strategies silly

Thanks for looking guys, but I can't justify spending that much on it really... I'm not even 100% it will have something in of any use - but worth a try

Anna, if it is marketing related have you spoken to Phil James (BOSSCERB). If not it is worth a chat as he was Head of Marketing there for a while.

idea He may even have access to a copy.

I appreciate Phil's a busy man, I did get a friend of his to ask on my behalf - but I don't think he was able to help

confused Really? I'll help if I can. I don't have a copy of the book in question and doubt very much it will hold the information you'd need.

TVR is an excellent - possibly unique - marketing case study. I doubt there's 10,000 words to be spun from "strategy" (there wasn't one) but a critique of its marketing successes (introduction of RV8 in the wedge, the S, the Griff thru to Cerbera) and failures (Tuscan Speed Six onwards) would be an interesting tale.

Maybe the message never got as far as you
I would appreciate any help at all though. I think I've set myself quite a challenge. (Although I am using Bugatti as a contrast, so the 10,000 are not solely on TVR.
My objectives are:
* To see if there is a relationship between the type of advertising used and popularity of the company
* Explore any attemps to market overseas
* Analyse what target markets the current marketing strateies are aiming at, and whether the brand awareness reflects this
* Comparison of the different strategies used between TVR (typically British) and Bugatti (French)
* Examine the effect foreign investment has had on TVR and Bugatti

I would be interested to know what your strategy was Phil when you took over as marketing manager - what were your thoughts and ideas, and what were the reasons behind them, as if I remember correctly, there was not a lot of marketing preceding your arrival!

How far back are you going Anna? TVR had some very innovative marketing ideas in the Lilley era. Ok, nude models draped over motor show cars seems a bit passe now but in the '70's it earned big headlines for a tiny company and was just the sort of stunt that stretches a small budget way beyond where it should go. The archivist at the TVRCC, Richard Sails, has press cutings etc.. I'm sure.

Anna, I have two copies of 'the Book', but I can put you in touch with Martin Lilley, who owned TVR from 1967 to 1982.

Email me via my profile if interested.

I'm going all the way back to the beginning, and having a look at all the strategies adopted over the years.
I do vaguely remember something about nude models, thanks for refreshing my memory - hadn't written anything about them yet.

It's hard work finding out all this stuff, there's not one central place where everything has been documented as far as I know, so everything you can rememeber is of use
