S3 measurements

Going to France in the summer and Brittany Ferries require the measurements of the car.
As I am out of the country at the moment, does anybody have to hand the overall length and height of the car (with top on!) and the also the ground clearance of the exhaust box to floor. Just hope I am put on the level and not up to many ramps! The car is a 1990 S3 and NOT an S3c.

Hi Paul....

.... not sure of the measurements, I'll consult the bible tonight and get back to you if no-one else has already. I travelled on P&O a few years back and had no issues with ground clearance and mine seems to get close in just about every situation! From memory I think ground clearance by the book is 6" and height something like 44", I'll check and get back to you though!

Long time no hear. I guess if you're abroad, you won't be going to the Wilts meet tonight!

I took my S2 from Portsmouth to Caen on Brittany Ferries back in 2004. The boot was full and it did bottom out on most of the ramps. -Not so bad as to become beached however!

When booking I did tell them about the low ground clearence, but I don't recall being loaded any differently to any of the other vehicles.

Haven't got the dims, can get them this evening if you're stuck.

Sounds daft I know, but it will be the tide which dictates the clearance you will have as the approach angle of the ramps on and off the ferry changes (to a lesser degree of course)with the rise and fall of the tide

I agree with the comments on tide. However there were also ramps within the ferry to bottom out on too!!

The trick is to tell the loaders what to do, as they tend to be very responsive to that. My starter motor packed up coming back from Le Mans last year so I told the SpeedFerries guys that I had to be parked nose forward on a flat area (Cerb handbrakes are ornamental), they positions me in the centre back of the ferry and even helped jump start it when we arrived in the UK.

Make it sound worse than it is without making out yoru car is dangerous and you should be sorted.

Tom - good to hear from you. Update on the motor, all four wheels have NOW been refurbished, laquared and polished - looking good.
I was going to the meeting tonight with the guy from Calne and his Tamora. However, was told yesterday to get on a flight for Toulouse to cover the Airbus story, still here! Soon departing for one of those Easy jet flights. Back home after midnight, hence not seeing you tonight. I will try and make next months meeting.
