Very few highbrows around here will be au fait
with the tin worm,

as their cars are both too new and too plastic to be affected

I suggest a bank loan, to get a new car
as your approved solution

First thing to do - if you haven't already - is take all paint etc off the surrounding area (both sides if possible) to make sure it is just a 3mm hole. The little bastards have a nasty habit of turning in to big bastards when you do that, but you need to establish the true extent of the rot.

If it is just 3mm, then as wildoliver says you can weld it up and grind it flush. Or you can always fibreglass it up from the rear if you can get at it.

If it is bigger then you can weld a plate in or even spot weld one in from behind and follow the same process.
