Got an 02 996 turbo with PCM1 and nav. Was wondering if PCM2 gives any significant extra features and, if so, whether an upgrade is feasible/economical. Would also be grateful for any info regarding installing an aftermarket CD changer (OPC want approx £700 to put in a genuine Porsche CDC).

Think upgrade is impossible as PCM2 uses MOST cabling
Correct. However having a pre MOST car is an advantage in that a wide range of aftermarket SatNav systems can be fitted - whereas in a MOST bus equipped vehicle its seems that the choice is limited to Porsche supplied units.
If I owned a car fitted with PCM1 I think I would consider an upgrade to an Alpine or Clarion unit.
In terms of sheer technology though one would be better off leaving the PCM1 in place, switching it off and using a Tom Tom. Sad but true. Technology moves on rapidly these days and "transportable" units seems to me to be the way do things. In these days of £200 Sat Navs you are better off NOT having one permanently wired into the car.
Hi there
I used to have an Alpine unit in my S2000 and it was FAB. I now have a PCM1 in the porker and as useful as it is I wouldnt bother replacing it. Its functional in England, rubbish if you go abroad (lemons for example)
Looks nice in the car and will provide your next purchaser with a warm and fuzzy not messed about with feeling.
I use my mobile with Tom Tom in the other cars as they dont have sat nav.
I thought about the PCM2 upgrade but was told not to bother.
