Is it standard practice for a indy/dealer to tick off each item they have actually done (whether a check/replace/fill) etc. on a service schedule sheet during the service to ensure each is done correctly?

Also, are these sheets generally kept for future reference?

Don't know the answer to your question but go to www.itstvr.com/_sgg/m5_1.htm
You can buy a 6000 and 12000 miles service manual with Photo's and instructions for Chimeara and Griffith.
It also has service sheets with each item that has to be checked/serviced/fill, etc.

Thanks cloggy, could be useful in the future.

What I was looking for is more the general practice people encounter (or use) to ensure that services are completed without missing anything.

Tripps - I have seen the service tick sheets for this but never been given one as part of the bill at any TVR dealer or indie..

Just the bill for the money and the car keys..

I know my hubby gives a tick sheet out with each service and all dealers WERE supposed to give a signed copy over with every service. When I was at the factory, we used to give the white sheet to the customer and the yellow copy used to go into factory records.

I'm trying to remember which webpage has a copy of the original tick sheets on? Could have been on a TVRCC region page? Will have a nosey

Thanks guys, just trying to figure out how various parties manage to ensure they do what they say they've done after the customer parts with their well-earned in good faith.

If you use the same indie regularly

a) an element of trust develops. You get greetd by name by most of the mechs etc.

b) if they haven't done something, and it shows or leads to something further you go back and bark at them.

Most are so keen on their reputation (if they are any good) they'll protect that with goodwill. Whenever I book my V8S in for a service and they ask is it 6 or 12k, I just look dumbly at them (quite easy in my case :thuimbup and say you've done the last 8 or whatever, you tell me. You should know........

If you want nice tidy forms, its really a main dealer you need. With asociated rates to match. best service ever was at Portfields in Chichester (now sadly gone some years). I was sat down with a tray of coffe and the guy who was actually going to do the work. He went through a couple of pages of questions before the service. Same guy sat down after the service, explained what he had done, what needed doing next service and what would need doing within 12 months. Fantastic, but cost £650 for a 6,000 service with a few odds & ends - all documented. He had done previous 3 services for previous owner, so have most of book stamped and signed by same guy which is kind of nice.

All my Tamora services have been done by the factory or Power - all have given me the check sheet.

The guy that does mine (TVR-approved independent) ticks everything off on an official service sheet and gives me that, with notes made on it of any comments or observations, and also a detailed invoice.

Wish I had one for every service the car has had before my ownership.

Obviously it helps that I trust the guy to actually do it all - any idiot can tick a column of boxes on a form.

Tripps is not really new to TVR's and knows the dealers and local indies well..

I never get a tick sheet from my favourite Indie. I get an invoice showing the service plus any other bits that have been done. For me the most important thing is that the car comes out purring, and a quick look around shows lots of stuff has been cleaned, greased etc that I wouldnt have expected. Also find odd things have been fixed without being mentioned (odd rattles , bits of trim falling off etc) and without any extra charge. Its a trust thing. And of course the free coffee clinches it ;-)

Not having one has never been a problem for me in the past, but when it comes to questioning what was done (rather than assuming it was part of the service) it would be a nice thing to have.

But as you say, any monkey can tick a box on a sheet or type a line item on an invoice...
