I have just had my spark plug cover painted and when I removed it the was silicon around the edge. I suppose this was to stop water getting at the plugs. Does anyone else have silicon around theirs ? Do I need it ?

yes you do need to seal up to stop moisture affecting plugs/leads etc.....

Yes they will be..... It's a simple one piece moulding with a flexible rubber gasket, so no rocket science.

The airbox was the most complicated moulding to make that had been attempted by Allan and the price reflects that. The cam cover insert is a P.O.P in comparison.

These should sell by the bucket load as they save labour time (no silicone to take off and put back on)so will be a saving in that area. The fact that they will sell in large numbers also makes the unit price significantly cheaper (unlike the airboxes).

sounds good, but if they only charged say £200 for the airbox's they'd shift a shitload, at £800 most people wont even contemplate it

for the airbox see the news section

www.pistonheads.com/tvr/default.asp?storyId=15938

The cost only includes a small mark up as they are very expensive to make believe it or not. I thought it was expensive as well, but when the costs were broken down it is clear to see that bespoke components dont come cheap (especially low volume stuff).

Compare it to the Gruppe M stuff and then say it's poor value (and they shift loads).

BigGriff... I want a really flashy cam cover, so please either update this post, or create a new one when you have the details available.

BTW, if I fancy having my current one powder coated like the 4.0 SP6 covers, where can I get that doen in the North West please?

I see your point, but compared with anything else in quality carbonfibre from a trusted supplier (and there's a lot of weak or crap looking c/fibre out there) that is also a highly complex moulding, it's very good value, IMO

Won't have my name associated with anything crap build quality. Simple as that.

The Powder coating on my cam cover is Candy Apple Blue. It was done by these guys who are brill. They seem to turn stuff around quick and the quality is very good.

p.s. There will be a profile of my car and the mods available on sleepy-fish when I get the car back from the garage and have uploaded the photos.

If you saw just how bad the SP6 airbox was from TVR it would make you weep !!!

All things are built to a price, it's effectively what the customer is willing to pay for!

If I help develop a mod/upgrade, it is just that..... better than TVR made it and more fit for purpose. If it does not fulfill these simple requirements then it does not considered.

Some people are willing to pay more for a better product, some are not.

This is my hobby, not my business and I develop parts for myself first and foremost, it just happens that all the things I have been associated with recently just happen to be commercial propositions. I'm certainly not getting rich (in fact I'm still substantially out of pocket, but hey, I enjoy it and it's my money).

So before anyone asks the list of new products will be as follows:

Silicone Hoses (Tuscan ones already in stock at ACT)
SP6 Airbox (completed)
Cam cover insert
Tuscan front splitter
Complete SP6 cam cover assembly?

We are also looking a carbon fibre interior parts and I have been asked to look at some bits for Aero 8's and 911's.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Richard

Would the proposed cam cover insert be some kind of self sealing item so we don't need to use tons of gunk all the time?

Definitely a good thing if this is the case.

Might be a bit more cost effective compared to a new cam cover.
