ClioV6 better then GT3!
Discussion
Maybe not, but with a small wait between beasts a sudden rush of blood to the head has seen me aquire a MK2 ClioV6. Not particularly fast, 'interesting' handling (although better than MK1) and the GT3 would have whipped it's arse without getting out of third. So why am I looking for every excuse to drive it then. Mega fun! Oh and cheap as chips, done it's depreciation and attracts more (positive) attention than the GT3 where ever it goes. One to hold on to I think.

I feel a bit the same about the Mini GP. I know that the general perception is that they're not much cop, but it sure puts a grin on my face. Driving something like a 911 can be such a serious business, it's fun to hop into the GP and drive like a hooligan.
That's it exactly - nice to be able to thrash something without it all becoming deadly serious. adamt said:

R32 - great car. Went to Wales on a group test sometime ago. There was the usual 'grab a car and last one back buys the drinks' at the end of the day and I missed out on all the exotics and ended up in the VW. Because I could just nail it everywhere had huge fun - wasn't last back either! Minis are the same.

took delivery of a blue R32 today - first impressions great (even at less than 4K rpm!)
Andrew
Wait till its run in and you can hear it above 4k
Pugsey,
Glad you had fun, with these little cars you can make surprising progress!

I had an Illiad blue 2004 Clio V6 over the Christmas period (sold it 9th Jan). You can see pics on www.fuzzybrush.com (click "photographs"
although all livery was removed just before I got it.
It had had a re-map of some kind, and an upgraded backbox & air filter. It felt a LOT quicker than a normal 996, and probably on par with or maybe quicker than a GT3 off the mark (not had one for 18 months, so not recent enough to be certain). The grip was amazing too, virtually impossible to provoke a power slide, certainly at a speed I'd have felt comfortable trying it at anyway. Besides a very slight hesitation on low down acceleration when cold (went away altogether when warmed up), there didn't seem to be any downside in the power upgrade and I'd recommend it. Big grin factor.

Steady on there!
With the re-map etc you'll get about 260bhp - the V6 in standard form doesn't actually reach it's claimed 255bhp. It's also a heavy little beast. Now I know I'm raving about the little monster but it would struggle against a standard 996 - GT3 forget it! As has been said having fun isn't always about outright power and speed though. I believe it was supposed to be 280bhp but no idea for certain of course. I may be wrong, as I say it's been 18 months since I had a GT3, but the Clio certainly was very quick off the mark. Maybe it was a bit slower than a GT3 and would certainly be no match for it over a longer drag (100+mph etc) or round a track. I do really really wish I'd had chance to track the Clio though, just to see what it was like.
The attention it created on the road was interesting too - from the knowing nod from the few, to those who associated it with the typical Croozin type hatches with tons of fibreglass bodykit to cart around and only a 1.2 litre to do it with

Because of the extra weight of the V6, the standard 182 is widely considered to be the sweeter car to drive, the Trophy being idolised for it's expensive Spax ? suspension, recaro sets etc.
But, it's certainly an interesting looker --- even if the MkI did have a reputation for spinning !
BHP is 255 isn't it ?

I had a liquid yellow one for a few months as a toy about a year ago. The only mod I did and one I would serious recommend is putting the 182 Throphy recaro seats in. They sit you a couple of inches lower and the driving position suddenly makes a bit more sense (not great but a world better!).
I gave up with it in the end even though it made me grin (and oh yes you can powerslide them very easily!!! but holding it there is not so easy!) as it was less practical than the GT2 I had at the time, really did have zero luggage/shopping space.

Pugsey - if it's not rude - could you tell me how much you paid for your V6 ? Thinking of getting one to act as a "tender" and as a car we can leave anywhere.

What you say is true - you have to get your head round driving a V6 properly - but isn't that the attraction of Porsches for a lot of us? Park a V6 and a standard car next to each other and if you're looking for a cheap runabout car to put a smile on your face which are you going to choose? I didn't want just another hot hatch - however good it might be. It's a better 'investment' too. Beside if I want the ultimate driving experience that will be sitting in my garage with an entirely different badge on it. Yes 255 was claimed bhp but in reality they produced around 240.
