Just so moon-watchers and astrophotographers are aware, there is a lunar eclipse due on the night of March 3rd. NASA has a nifty little graphic here to explain:

The Earth will cast its shadow onto the moon. Earth's shadow is relatively large incomparison to the moon so it should disappear completely for a few minutes. IF I've understood correctly.

Not as dramatic a thing as the sun being blacked out and day turning into night temporarily I admit - but still a good show I'd have thought. Never stayed up for one yet! Reckon I will this time.

Saturday night? Did I get it right that UT is Universal Time which is the same thing as Grenich Mean Time?

I got a great pic last time this happened - was thinking of selling to astronomical mags:

The moon won't disappear but should turn a deep red colour. It all depends on the amount of pollutants in the atmosphere at the time. It's often been described as looking like a glowing cannon ball and appears 3D. The astronomical society i belong to is holding a public observing evening on Saturday so pray for clear skies!

Anyone in the Maidenhead area is welcome to come along and we'll be meeting at Braywick Nature Centre in Maidenhead from about 7.45pm onwards.

My Mummy told me it was last night and I stood in the garden freezing at midnight wondering if the slight waxing was an eclipse or not for 10 minutes!!

Slight early morning *bump* (ooer missis) just in case I forget later. "The Sky" Might make a good monthly competition subject sometime. Of course, not necessarily night time or just sky.

It would have been the 300 and I guess it's cropped to 1/2 the frame.
