Hi All,

Bit of a odd question this I know but i'm off to a conference at the end of the month and i'm not sure what to pack. I've never been to one before!

The dress code is business casual and runs from Sunday night to Wednesday.

Here's the catch it's in Florida! So I need to pack light if possible. The plan is to fly out Saturday morning and have Sunday to recover before the pre conference drinks. The Clients etc go home on Tuesday night, then Wednesday is a corporate day. Before flying home on Thursday morning.

The question is how many suits etc do I take? Obviously a shirt for each day. Can I get away with just taking one black suit, a couple of pairs of smart trousers and enough shirts to keep me going. Or will I be expected to be an suit the whole time?

Sorry for what is probably the most stupid question ever asked on PH, I just need to get this right!

Business casual is, in general, trousers and shirt - forget the tie and jacket! What's your normal work dress code? Are you expected to be with the group the whole time (ie posh restaurants), or do you get time out (shorts/beach) - that will determine what else to take

Do a girlie - 'what are you taking?' - hey, it works for us!!!

Normal dress code is smart casual so it works for me. I just don't want to be the only one without a suit jacket etc.

Have to agree, saves you looking out of place, it's the only time this kind of behaviour is acceptable mind!

I would still take a light jacket

Bear in mind it can reach 85 degrees in Florida at this time of year so the Americans crank the air con up to max and it can easily be about 60 degrees inside

When I was in Vegas a couple of years ago I went out without my jacket on the first morning and nearly froze in the Venetian

The Gala Dinner can be a bit of a mine field. I went to a conference in Washington DC once with a Belgian colleague who fished out a smart DJ, only to find everyone else (including me) dressed a little down. He kept being mistaken as a waiter all night!
