Its time for new rears on the chim, etyres are offering Dunlop SP9000's for 191.80 inc vat and they come to you and fit them. Has anyone tried them ? I'm always nervous about letting tyre places near the chim with their jacks !

Edited to add: changed my mind falken are doing FK452's for £127.20 inc vat and shipping and my local garage will stick them on for £10 each when I get my MOT next week.

£191.80 - That's for the pair right?

How they gonna balance 'em - I assume they have equipment on-board some kind of van/truck. Re-fitting tyres onto the Chim was a small (but not insurmountable) job for my local Elite Garage. Apparently the rims on the standard Chimaera wheels are a bit of a pain to get a tyre onto - or so they said. They ended up using a machine that they wouldn't usually use to get it onto the wheel and plenty of grease.

Make sure they get the Jack on the (tubular) chassis - or BIG problems. Took Elite 5 minutes to find a place - scrambling around on the floor under the car with a lamp whilst plenty of worrying head scratching going on.

Also, if your wheels are pristine, watch them like a hawk as all that levering-off of tyres with an iron bar can mark 'em up. They'll deny it was them given half a chance.

I paid £200 for a pair of SO2's fitted 2 weeks ago so £191 seems fair if they do a good job.

Thats exactly what I was worried about. So now my mind is made up I will go with the falkens and get my local garage to do it. They are familiar with the chim and have all the gear to do a decent job.

I'm a big fan of the falkens. I have them on my Omega, and am putting them on my Golf and the chim now ! I ran Falkens for many years on my Renault 5 turbo and was always very pleased with the grip.

I had both a new battery and new tyres fitted on my Alfa by etyres. The service when I got the battery was great. However I was less impressed with the tyre service. First of all, Toyos although listed on the website as available were on back order. When they came round to fit the tyres, the fitter couldn't get the jack under the sideskirt thingies (what do you call them?) and had to use the car's spear wheel jack. And he wouldn't beleive me when I told him the manual suggested a few more psi for doing long-distance runs, so I had to go round and pump the tyres a bit more. Given the level of service I got on nothing more unusual than an Alfa, I might just use them again for that, but I'm not sure I'd trust them with a TVR.

Yep - had all 4 replaced for SP9000 by etyres end of last year. No problems at all, they came to my work, treated the car well, fully balanced the wheels etc (all the kit is in the van), correct torque settings for the nuts, correct tyre pressure etc.

Took him about 1.5 hrs in total - so he didn't rush.

Very impressed with them.

My neighbour used etyres once. You should note that they take the opportunity to mail shot your entire neighbourhood with fliers so you'll be mr unpopular.

Agreed, used etyres for the Zafira last November. They arrived at the agreed time and did a good job.

Well due to problems with Falken Direct I wont be getting 452's from them so I need an alternative. Back to the Dunlops I guess (unless anyone has other recommendations ?). Or do other suppliers sell Falken tyres online ? Hmm I need to stop being lazy and get googling...

I've got Toyo Proxes T1-R's on mine. A fantastic tyre on the Chimaera IMHO.

www.toyo.co.uk/productdetail.php?identity=products&product_id=2

If memory serves, I paid about £70 for each the fronts and £100 for each of the rears.

Agreed - Toyo Proxes suit the Chimaera very well and great pricing must make them tyre of first choice.

ok then proxes are £79 inc vat + shipping each for the rear and the reviews on the net look good. More expensive than the falkens but worth a punt I guess :-)

Should you go for the Proxes, be extra careful for the first few miles after fitting. I've found them to be slippery little buggers initially but fantastic once they've got about 150 miles under their belts.

Tyre pressures - I'm having 4 SP9000's fitted to my Chim with standard wheels e.g. 205/55ZR15, 225/50ZR16s. I have had Bridgestones up to now and used the standard 24PSi rear and 22PSi from pressures. Do I use the same pressures for the Dunlops ?

confused Looks about the same to me; twenty minutes a corner plus ten minutes to unpack and reload the van. wink

I've fitted the falken FK452 215/45-17 front and 245/40-18 rear.

Pleased with the grip but I've got the impression they look far smaller/narrower then the same sized Toyo's . . . frown

I even think of selling them and fitting a size wider.

As I live in Belgium I suppose you guys are not interested.

They are brand new. (+/- 250km)
