Due to be picking up a new car today. However, the DVLArolleyes have not returned the reg documents (with the private plate details) back to the dealer. Dealer says that they cannot release the car.

I appreciate their position but what does the law say about this, ie would there be any comeback on the dealer? I am quite prepared to drive the car and explain the any passing BiB the situation, ie I have paid for the tax disc (and can obviously prove it via the receipt for the car.

What's the legal position on all of this?

I don't know the legal position.
I have recently bought a car from a dealer that did have a private plate on that the dealer removed.
The car allready had tax on, and the dealer had allready made up the new plates and fitted them. However, the V5 had not yet been returned. The dealer said I could iether take the car as it was, or wait for him to get the details in the post.

if you've paid for the car, can't you do what you like with it?
