So here’s the dilemma.....

I’ve got a really nice, dead straight and very honest 2000 996C2.
It has low owners, good spec, low mileage for year, full OPC dealer history, no bumps or scrapes anywhere, etc, etc.

Now do I play around with it? My head says no, but I would like it to have a bit more poke. I purposely bought this one because of the above and I know I could sell it on for good money to a 20 year old or a 60 year old in current condition.

I’m only really thinking of putting a breathing kit on it. You can get a couple of different types for around £150-£200 from Porsche shop I think and its supposed to improve BHP by 10-20.

I can’t help thinking though that the next owner will start to think its been fiddled with and thrashed more than usual and suddenly its not a standard car. My other fear was warranty. It hasn’t got one at the moment, but with a full OPSH, you can get a warranty on it after an inspection.

Head says no, leave it alone, right foot says I WANT MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!! driving

Any advice

Gemballa ... Yummy!!!

C2 plate must be at least a 10% performance improvement!

Show me a car on a dyno actually showing these improvements in power and I'll show you the colour of my money, otherwise I'd leave well alone........................

Agreed

I put allsorts of NA improvments on my S2000 and they made it sound lovely but did very little for performance. Although the exhaust made it sound like I was in a jet fighter!

The only real improvement I have seen is from polished manifolds and a good exhaust.

However I have never done anything to the porker so Im not the wiser if much improvement is available.

Love that spoiler!!!!

That's lovely. What the hell? Did they sneak that one out of the shop whilst Uwe was having a nap? It looks diamante-free and everything. I'd have expected a couple of gold taps or some marble on it at least.

Cheers guys. In usual PH style.....loads of rambleing and not much help laugh

Interseting that some say the induction kit may not make a differnce...???

Call me daft as well, but I never thought of buying something and taking it off for services and to sell it.

The spoiler looks cool. I wanted a C2 with a GT3 kit when I bought this, but the car was dead right and a good buy.

Induction kits below from Porscheshop.co.uk:
Trueflow Induction Kit 10-20+bhp

Quantity
Gear type: ManualTiptronic

Price: £195.00 (Excluding: VAT at 17.5%)

Convert into: Euros | US Dollars | Other
(To be used only as a guide.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carbon Dynamic Air Box 10-20+bhp

Filtering system is composed of a cylindrical carbon airbox containing a washable filtering element. Substituting the original airbox with a CDA, cold air is directly channelled through an internal airflow deflector to the filter and drawn into the engine. The CDA gives you a real dynamic supercharging system to improve remarkably the power and torque performance of the engine.

Price: £198.80 (Excluding: VAT at 17.5%)

the early stuff he did (pre 99) was actually ok, there was a great gemballa 928 GT that somone had on here, sold in the classifieds a few months back, that was a real improvment on the already great looks of the 928 GT, just seems he went a bit max power after the millenium.

might start a new thread (after speaking to wetwipe) to see how much the spoiler is worth.. .. .. .. .. .. .. its sitting in the conservatory at the moment, and providing 0 extra downforce in the proccess. . . . . . .

Would you rent it? Any chance it would fit on the back of a Renault Clio?

that was the first port of call tbh, wanted to take a pic of it but after working out the right angle and then realising id need to unbolt the racks etc, i couldnt be assed.

still fresh with the 10 or so layers of zymol its had over the past few months, although that will only be a selling point for somone who has a met ocean blue 996 . . . . .

rent = how much, minimum lease terms apply.

And even if you did get 10-20bhp, would you actually feel it? Personally I'd put the money towards keeping the car fighting fit - optimax and servicing etc.

That said, I've just had the MAF sensor on my car replaced and I swear it feels a little friskier...

I had to replace the MAF on mine last year.

It’s surprising how well the car goes when you wind it up. Just go out the guys a lot who make mine look really slow!!!!!...... A chipped X50 and Heavily modded MR340

I think the verdict is no to the breathing kit, and with an exhaust priced at £3k....that’s another no!!

The car will just have to stay the way nature (well, Porsche) intended

We recently did a lot of work on a beautiful 996 C2 3.4 manual. It was really healthy and delivered a genuine 300.4 BHP on our dyno when standard. It took sports headers, sports cats, sports boxes, free flow air filter, Revo ecu reprogramme & Shell V power to get it to deliver 338 BHP ! The cost was north of £4k.

IMHO no induction kit on earth will give more than 5 BHP and thats only if you are really lucky. The biggest gains come fro sports cats & headers allied to an ecu reprogramme.

An ecu reprogramme & free flow filter element in your standard airbox will deliver c20 BHP over standard for around £800 + vat.

Cheers

Allan
