hi, would it be possible to uprate the wedge braking by using a bigger master cylinder and/or servo, surely these were off a cortina or similar which had disks on the front and drums on the rear, my wedge has got the big jag calipers on the back and princess 4 pots on the front, any sugestions would be appreciated.

cheers jon

There is a section on wedge pages for this, under maintenance. Also it has been discussed a few times in here, try a search.

What problems are you experiencing with the brakes? In general the disks and calipers are upgraded but I haven't heard of anyone upgrading the master cylinder or servo.

If you fit a larger bore master cylinder you may actually make things worse, as the Pedal effort will increase as the leverage ratio has come down. Then again the amount of pedal movement will also reduce to achieve the same pressure at the caliper, so if you're after a shorter harder pedal then yes do it.
Personally I'd look at trying a different pad material.

I have been looking at it but as it was working out at around £600 decided to fit a new set of seals for about £10. The 520 brakes would occassionally need pumping and the thought was that maybe the master cylinder was not big enough to supply enough fluid for the big brakes etc. However the seals seem to have done the trick. Lo and behold the braking performance has been restored!

Why not just change to fastroad pads (Tarox or mintex)
and change the hoses to stainless goodrich...

Sure makes my car a lot better.

demon tweeks sell a brake fluid recirculator, maybe this would stop the fluid boiing in race situations, no idea how it works or if it works its only about 85 quid + vat though
