I'm sorry but my urine is simmering nicely after watching BBC news this am.

They showed a pair of censored old censored busy censored bodies out pinging vehicles. Apart from the fact that the old censored censored were wearing hi-viz jackets operating a radar they were breaking almost every rule in the code of practice.

No evidence of prior opinion, pinging stuff in low 20s, and as for taking a steady aim, this old biddy had it at arms length waving it about like a Colt 45, utter utter feckwits. 2 hours training my arse.

Anyone sends me a letter from one of these censored and they will get it sent back and told to shove it up where the sun doesn't shine.

I saw this, two coffin dodgers with nothing better to do. I bet you'd be ok to speed through their village when Cash in the Attic, Countdown and Deal or no Deal is on.

They showed a Micra doing 27mph, then the gun went down to 18mph when it was pointed at a wall Maybe they should be proper speedcam operators with accuracy like that

Do they have a code of practice? Anyone got a copy?

It's probably just as well their 'evidence' would not be used in a prosecution then.

How long before a friend of one of these interfering old tts sees a car parked up, 'remembers' seeing them speeding two days earlier and they suddenly get a nice threatening letter......

That used to happen in a village near me but now they have just made the road half the width....

Not sure how forcing traffic closer together is safer but still. I guess in future your speed fine money will be spent on wing mirrors, still at least no points hey!

One such outfit says

"If a driver exceeds the speed limit by more than 10 percent we record the number and description of the vehicle. We will supply a list of these drivers to the police, who write to them with a warning. If that driver re-offends, he or she will be given a final warning. An instant ticket can be issued if the police catch the driver speeding a third time."

Elswhere two letters and then they will be targeted for enforcement, whatever that means.

The police can issue an instant ticket anyway if the police catch them.

On the basis of what I've seen the evidence is not even worthy of the name. The procedures were pathetic.

Then we have the potential lack of objectivity.

CD1 "38 this one"
CD2 "Oh that's the Major, always stands his round up the golf club, we'll let him off, maybe have a quiet word."
CD1 "Oh look its that nasty young lad with the loud sports car that frightens Mrs Miggins cat, bugger only 28!"
CD2 "I'll round it up to 38 then."

Funnily enough I just booted up the PC to complain about this.

I noticed the only "anti" comments made were that the training was not long enough and that people ought not to police themselves.

No mention that speeding is bollox in terms of killing people, BUT plenty from the bloke who said that speeding killed/injured 32000 per year.

Would you rather get a letter asking you to mind the limit through the village or a NIP?

I'd rather road policing was left to road police and the doddering old feckwits went back to watching tv and gossiping

Funnily enough, I don't get either, as I don't speed through a village.

I have to say though that in all honesty I would like to see NIPs issued in some cases, certainly in my village where 4*4s are doing 40 up, whilst on the school run (with the other kids waiting by the side of the road waiting for the bus too), whereas I slow down to 20. I have even been overtaken by one in this situation. I think points and a fine would be better under these circumstances.

Using little old biddies worries me for two reasons.
1. They may well keep reporting someone they don't like
2. If someone thinks they might lose their license they may get assaulted/abused.

Second jasandjules, don't get either as I go around in vonhosen mode. :touchwoodmode:

Regardless of whether its a NIP or a letter it needs to be based on sound evidence from properly trained and experienced people using accurate equipment correctly. Community Speedwatch meets not one of those criteria.

Probably when one of them gets strung up - by one of their neighbours!

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Perhaps you could find where they park their rover 200 and then phone the coppers reporting them for dangerous driving? I bet these are the kind of people that drive at 25mph everywhere completely oblivious to all around them.

Bugger! Are those my only two choices??? Hmmmm, let me think? I can't decide between them. I guess a letter through the post? But it seems really unfair of his herewegoness to restrict me to two options without engaging into any sensible debate about the mere existence of these old duffers and their (innacurate and biased) measurement of what is now widely known to be one of the least important factors in road safety.

But since you make such a well positioned argument here, I'm going for letter.

Phew!

Would think it's only a matter of time before one of these 'Little Hitlers' gets a shoeing from an irate motorist who has been persecuted just a little too far and finally loses it on the interfering feckwit, then what happens to the 'Community Speedwatch scheme'?

Well that's one of the key points isn't it. Without exception, every single report I've seen of these village vigilantes during the past year they've all been manned by busy-bodying coffin dodgers with nothing better to do than moan about everything.

Now while I don't condone violence, I have to admit I will allow myself a wry smile the first time some chav jumps out of his car having been "trapped" by Ted and Elsie and kicks seven bells out of the pair of them,

Policing should be done by the Police. End of.

The thing is, its quite funny seeing the reactions of older people when they see me getting out of my car, its always a sort of "hes young and driving a sports car!!!" (I've got a Puma), so I doubt they'd treat everyone fairly. And of course, can you imagine if a TVR or another car with a loud proper, not chav) exhaust went past?

Coffin dodger 1: "The machine says hes doing 29"
Coffin dodger 2: "Oh, but it sounds like hes doing 60, lets write that down..."
Coffin dudger 1: "Ok, is it time for Coronation Street yet?"

I once got not much better from a Traffic cop (several years ago). I was 26 or so and driving a Lotus then and was approaching mini-roundabout slowing down to turn left when a police car became visible coming from the road I was about to turn into. By the time we could see each other I was only doing about 25mph, and that road was 40mph limit. I exited roundabout, accelerated briskly back up to 40mp and obviously checked rear view mirror. He looped round and followed me for about a mile. Blues came on and get was very rude and in my face that I had been speeding after the roundabout, before the roundabout etc. It was a cold winterns evening and I was returning from playing 5-a-side still in kit so asked repeatedly to be allowed to put trousers on. Each time he said no as it wouldn't be long. Finally he asked where I was going, to which I replied home, about 4 miles away. A bit later his colleague got out and came over and said "you're a long way from home aren't you, this car is registered in [200 miles away]". The joy on first blokes face was something to behold. So I took great delight as I looked him straight in the eye as I recited the registered address and pointed out it was my company address and that the car was a company car.

The reason for all this (IMO)- the colleague was a very attractive WPC who he was trying to impress. I should point out that she and every other BIB I have met have always been polite except that jumped up twerp. I would have complained but I reckoned I would then have been pulled every week.
