Hi all,

I have just aquired a new car and just before I head out to fuel it up thought I better ask the question......

Normal unleaded or can I use super unleaded?? The car has half a tank and has been sitting since october with only a few runs. Must say I am highly delighted with the car. It has 128k miles but has a full service history. The owners it has had in it's time certainly looked after him.

I think my daily car might be getting used less and less now as I am having fun again with a manual box lol.

Edit it's a 1985 model

I've use normal unleaded in my 1991 S2, I've tried super unleaded a few times and much as I would like to I can't notice any difference at all.

someone once explained this to me here but i've forgotten exactly what they said - something to do with knock sensors? anyway, the upshot was for early model 944 (i.e 2.5, 2.7 and 2.5 16v) you wont get any appreciable benefit from using a higher RON fuel like BP Ultimate or Shell VPower. For S2 models you will

Lovely car Stang

Looks beautiful in the polished (?) Fuch's.

Often thought I'd like to put them on my S2, wrong stud pattern though

Thanks for the replies guys. And yes I must admit the wheels are nice but really need to have a good clean up. This might be my task tomorrow as I spent most of the day polishing the bodywork.

Stang. Get yourself over to the TIPEC website. Nice car. The fuel you need depends on what its set up for. Should be super but some like mine have been modified to run on ordinary unleaded. At a cost of about 5Hp

I'm pretty sure the ignition timing on early cars was set for good old four star, so that means you need super (97/98 Ron) unleaded. Try asking here for a definitave answer.

If the fuel has been stood in the car for a few months (since October at least) the octane level will have decreased so even more reason to fill up with Super right away, so the average for the tank full is higher than now. As for future fill-ups, look for advice as others have directed.

If it's an early dash model,(pre mid '85),you'll will need super unleaded 97/98 RON. I wouldn't recommend running it on lower octane for prolonged periods. Oh,they are also lighter, faster and better fun than the post 85 cars!

Looks great with the Fuch wheels. My favourite wheels of all time, and really suit the 944 imo. They won't fit the later dash models (wrong offset iirc) or else I'd have put them on my S2.

I miss my old 944
