Not being mechanically minded, need some advice.
Just been out for a blast and stopped to get some petrol. Started the car to leave the garage and the battery light didn`t go out. Lifted the bonnet and everything seems to be OK, car running OK, all gauges running ok. Driven home and parked up.
What is it likely to be? Alternator give up or hopefully something as simple as a fuse?
Any advise appreciated.
Cheers.

100amp chassis fuse worth a look... follow the big alternator lead until you get to it (tho not all cars seem to have one)

I had this happen to me a while back and it was the alternator took it to my local garage , and they diagnosed the fault and i got them to replace it , mind you it could be any number of other things , battery , bad earth etc etc.

Paul, where abouts is this fuse located? and can you get them from places like Halfords?

Look forward of the starter motor on the off side you should see a 25mm by 10mm plastic box which has the 100 amp fuse inside, a large lead will be entering both sides of the box.

You can get them from Fleebay for a few pence.

I persume you have a Griff 500 se.

I hope this helps

Thanks, Yep found it, opened up the black box and the metal strip inside appears to be "as new", I prersumme it would be broken/burnt if it had blown?
edited to say, yes, it is a Griff SE

You're best to stick a meter across it to check continuity, the fuses 'usually' fail through fatigue rather than from blowing. Often they look intact at a glance but have a fracture.

As above, but its easy to check theres output from the back of the alternator while your at it, you have then taken that off your troubleshoot.

I dunno, these SE owners, now if you bought a proper Griff you would get a voltmeter hehe

If you do need to check the fuses take it from me its well worth the 5 mins work unbolting the front passenger seat and removing (underneath the car there are 4 bolts) to gain easier access to the footwell. Just had the replace the fuse to the heater panel on mine as I blew it yesterday (don't ask)

They sometimes look intact but put the meter across to be sure.

or undo the nuts and put both ends on to the same pole and check if the alt light has gone out if you have no meter
