Engine Size - Does size matter?

I'm still looking at getting a TVR and my latest question is... does engine size make much difference?

I've been told to get a 5.0 for the best punch but then I read the performance figures for the 4.0 and these seem to be very fast.

I've had a Scooby Turbo and an M3 Evo 3.2 in the past and want something with at least the kick up the backside that the M3 gave.

Sellers tell me that 4.0 is enough but then they would.

Un-biased comment would be good.

My current dilema is do I save some money and get a 4.0 or get a bigger loan and go for a 5.0. I want to try and keep the car for 2-5 years and worry about what I will be happy with. Is it a case of don't drive a 5.0 or I'll want one?

Anyone want to buy my Yamaha R1? On the bike section of the adverts. I need to sell this to finance the TVR.

Theres not that much in it and if you`re used to bike acceleration (especially an R1)then frankly they will all seem slower won`t they?!

This has been done to death previously - but with the bike/car comparision I'd agree that none of the cars will rival an R1 in a straight line. However, perhaps the additional torque of the larger engined cars would provide a good substitute, and certainly differentiate it from a rev happy R1? I think the best advise is to drive a few, 4 litre through 5 and make your own mind up.

i have owned R1's and scoobs-......and just bought a 450 chim, which was a fair bit quicker (espec. at speed) than the 400 i drove.

Also depends on the year (= price) you're looking at. For a late one look at 4.5 and 5.0L if early one look at 4.0, 4.3 and 5.0L
