...missing in modern Porsche design.

Drive a healthy 993 and you wonder how much progress has been made...

Dynamically it is still a masterpiece...

It will reward like few others...

It may be the best used sports car of all time...

All words from a review of a 100,000 mile 993 in Autocar this week. And not a single mention of beards, twigs in beer or horsebrasses.

I know - the shape is so well evelved - and it's giving me a moral dillema...

I was meant to be selling mine to get something more practical - bt having had a sperb blast or dry roads yesterday, it really did handle well and when yo wash it and chamois it it still looks amazing!!

I'm now torn between keeping it and selling it!

I'm sure most poeple don't realise just how cheaply you can get into 993 ownership, and drive one of the motoring icons of recent years!

Sorry edited for bad spelling!

I know what you mean. I have a yen for a 996 Turbo, but can't afford to get one in addition to my 993 Targa. The trouble is that I can't bring myself to part with the 993 - it's a beautiful shape, does everything I want and never fails to provide enjoyment. If I ever win the Lottery, I might well end up with a garage full of lovely cars, but there'd have to be a 993 amongst them.
BTW, I haven't got a beard or sandals and have never smoked a pipe, but I do claim to have good taste!

I love my 997C2S to bits and its the best car I've ever owned. However, every day to work I pass a lovely 993 parked on a street nearby. For that 5 seconds every morning I always think I've bought the wrong car. The 993 just is a beautiful looking car.

I could probably trade my 997 for a lovely sorted 993 and have £20k in cash as well... Does make you think.

Andrew, don't do it... i did (three times), that's why i'm now on my 4th. If you've got a good one, keep it.
If i ever get a chance to buy back my C4S i will, but if not i'm keeping this one...

I love the 993 too; that's why I bought one. Major factors for me were;

1. first 911
2. hewn from granite
3. anticipated limited depreciation
4. looks
5. the howl of the flat six

But I know at some point in the future I will change to a 996 C4S lick .

Rgds, Brin

I'm sad to inform you, I just did it!!

Subject to a workshop check she's gone...

Don't worry - I'll still have another, and another and another...

But maybe it's time to admit I need an Estate for now, and come back to this another time!!

I'll still be on the forum and still really want to come to the Ace meet on day...

Andrew.

Personally cant abide the way the 993 looks from the front much rather look at a 964 or a 996.

Are well can't please everyone.
Anyway like 99.9% of Porker enthusiasts and owners i just love the 993 in all aspects.
Its an absolute gem to drive to own and to look at, easily the best 911 made and the best i have owned.
Was out in my C4S yesterday with the RSR mufflers burbling/popping away...awesome and big grin factor
Whats interesting is went for a run im my mate Boxter S (lovely motor) no one gave us a second look.
Must be because the 993 is so ugly i guess everyone looks at it!!

Always useful to have a mate that goes for the ugly birds!

Had just that at university, he was fantastic with women but had appaling taste. I always ended up with the good looking mate after he'd done all the hard work.

Begining to see his point of view now, who wants to work hard to afford the popular girls, learn to appreciate the easier ones, they tend to go better anyway !

Everytime I attend a Porsche meet or gathering of any type it is invariably the 993s that get the approving looks and envious glances. Especially if they are fitted with RSRs.

There was that great scene in "Beautiful Mind" where the Russell Crowe maths genius character calculates that if he and all his mates go for the one hot bird none of them will get laid as her plain mates will get pissed off, whereas if they all go for the plain birds, the plain birds will be flattered and everybody gets laid.

Became the basis of some powerful economic theory, apparently!

Selling my old 993 is something I still regret.

I've had great fun in my GT3 - its got an epic engine, better than the 993, perhaps Porsches finest engine...still evolving as it is...

But i do miss the delicacy and mechanical feel of the 993. I'd modded it with RSRs, Bilsteins, had M030, live remap, etc etc.

What is it about cars that makes us sell them the moment we get them the way we want them?

Ajit.

The 964 looks so much better from the front than the 993. The rest of the 993 curves look great!!!!

No, no, no!

The 964 looks dated; the 993 has classic forever-good looks!
