Hello everyone, I'm the lucky guy that bought the S2 which was described as a "Partial basket case" in the advert which appeared on piston heads a couple of weeks ago. As soon as I sat in it I knew I was going to buy it! I've been enjoying driving it round with the roof down for the lastfew days of glorious sunshine, but the mot runs out on Thursday :-(! My first problem is that the chassis needs a patch on an out rigger, which is probably going to mean at least lifting the body, if not removing it! How many places does the body bolt onto the chassis, and how easy is it to lift the body a few inches? I have a lot of experience of repairing old Triumph Spitfires, but this is my first (Of many?) TVR's, so I'm as green as grass. Anybody got any advice? Cheers.

Hi John!

Welcome to the S forum. I really shouldn't be hanging around here, instead I've been relagated to the Landy forum

There might be something listed in the bible about body mounting points...can't remember to be honest.

SFR Engineering were intending to lift the back only to give enough clearence to patch the outrigger. -If you're getting desperate the qoute was £500

TVRCC may be useful. They have a model registrar which could offer advice over the phone. I'd be cheeky and phone the number (it's listed in the Sprint editions I gave you)

Make sure you win lots of races with her and email the photos across

Cheers

Hi Pete, I'm still smiling while i'm drivin! I'm just gonna lift the back body & patch it for now. Will probably do it over the weekend, so I can get an mot next week & keep on drivin
I've been looking at the central locking again very briefly. Did it ever work when you had the car? If not, did the previous owner mention it? I guess it was an aftermarket fitment, cos it doesn't look factory done & there's no mention of it on the origional sales stuff. Any ideas?

The central locking never worked, I didn't realise it was fitted until I got the door trim off to fix the electric window. Check the bible for the descrptions of the S variants. There's a table which lists the options available at each point in the production run to help assess if it was factory (or possibly dealer) fitted.

If you need any more info then feel free to email me directly, I'll try my best to help.

Huddy, I'm not sure where you are but Tower View Racing in North London are non-franchised TVR specialists who have done this job on a few S', it may be worth giving them a call.

Thanks for the info. I'm up in Lancaster, but I'll give em a call to see if they can offer any advice. I guess that most people will use 5 wire motors. It looks like a bit of a pig of a job to route the wires through the door & into the A post though. I can see a few expletives being uttered during that job !

Some cars did come with central locking already fitted. Don't know about the body off job except that it's a lot of work!

Glad to see someone is enjoying my old Tivver. Miss it dearly. Sold car to Pete last year after 2 wonderful years, sorry he has moved it on so soon, but I guess everyone needs a roof over their head. I bought the car off the original owner and had all original order forms, invoices etc which I gave to Pete. I remember mention of a remote locking alarm included which was fitted by the dealer (TVR Centre). When I got the car, the alarm was faulty and was therefore removed but the locking system left in place but never really needed it.

I hope you enjoy the car, I am sure you will, join the club, I'm still a member although now have a boring Porsche, will return to TVR VERY soon.

If I can be of any further help, please let me know,

Stephen

I am enjoying it! MOT runs out today,so I've just put it in the workshop, ready to start doing the chassis patch this weekend. If everything goes to plan it should get through the MOT by this time next week & then I'll be smiling again So did the central locking ever work after the alarm was removed?
Been out in the rain in her for the first time today (I say "she" although it may be a bit too butch to be a girl, and I've started calling it Gerald cos of the reg G33 ALD ) Rains in a bit, but nothing like my Spitfire does!

Hi John,

Keep an eye on the water ingress problem. It collects in the outboard sides of the footwells. If it gets bad it will reach the footwells proper and soak the carpets. They're a pig to remove to dry and it'll take ages if left in the car (with associated nasty musty smells). If you see how much Stephen paid for the carpets you'll want to keep 'em in good condition

Now Stephen mentions it, there is something in the documentation about the central locking -should still be there, I've only added to the folder.

Cheers

Pete

Hi Stephen,

She, it, Gerald! was a cracking motor and I'm gutted I had to sell it. Will hopefully be returning to the TVR fold if and when the opportunity arises, although with house prices being what they are it could be a while

-So, do I detect a hint that you'll be looking for a Chimp for the summer?
