Travel in brake pedal

Just changed front pads back from Greenstuff to the Mintex 1144's I had in before and now I have more play in the pedal.
My indy tried the Greenstuff to cure the squeal which worked but I found them lacking in bite and ultimate stopping power compared to the 1144's that came out. The Mintexs had only done a 1,000 miles so I decided to put them back in. They're about 3mm thinner than the Greenstuffs which came out so I'm wondering why I have so much play in the pedal now. How much travel do you have before you feel the pad on the disk. Any thoughts chaps.
