Steering Rack

The time has come to replace the steering rack on my 1989 350. i have searched the archives but can not find a good clue to what was fitted to the late 350's. The steering column appears to be Ford i.e. triangular with hexagon for the wheel. The pump is Rover / Triumph.

Any help / ideas where I can get one or this one recon fairly quickly as the car is my daily drive.

I had heard the rack was cortina mk4 (2.3 model) but any rack reconditioning place will be able to referb it.

Indeed, unless it is a PAS rack, in which case four different types were fitted, some requiring a TVR special PAS pump bracket.

Many different racks have been fitted over the years.
Cortina MK4 is a very common rack, but then again, when I replaced the rack on the previous wedge, it was off a Rover SD1 with some pipework modifications.

Personally, to ensure a perfect fit (and remembering the trouble I had), I'd send yours away to get reconditioned. Cost is about £80 and for that you'll get a full overhaul and get your rack back in pretty much "as new" condition. Many companies operate a 24 hour turn around period.
