Hi, looking for some advice on value for the above. I have an M3 cab & may be tempted to move to an XKR cab, the car is a 2000 silverstone cab with approx 15k miles on the clock. Full jag history & is being sold by a BMW/Jag main dealer (jacksons Guernsey, they are the main dealers for just about everything nice here!). The car is up for £24,995 & has been for sale for ages (it was originally £27,500). Is this a good price? I would imagine they would be keen to deal. It still srtikes me as a lot of cash for a 7 year old car, when you see what some of the normal XKR cabs are selling for. What are the advantages of the silverstone model?

I quote, 'in April 2000 Jaguar announced a special edition XKR known as the “Silverstone”. This model was launched to celebrate Jaguar’s return to Formula One racing and was named after the famous British racing track. Jaguar announced a limited run only of 100 cars (50 coupes and 50 convertibles) and all were finished in Platinum (Silver). Costs were £66,785 (coupe) and £66,080 (convertible). The 100 cars were immediately sold out.'

Having come from owning a couple of 'Limited edition' XKR's, I don't believe that they add any value as the are just normal cars, with maybe different badging etc. So it all comes down to whats on the car and what you want. I think the XK100 series are better editions to buy as the have the face lift and have 'all' optional extras, but only come in black.

As for the price, £25k it is probably open to a bit of haggling, but as you are in the channel isles, that creates supply issues and I'm sure they are playing on the 'only Silverstone edition this far south' aspect, plus it's at a Jag dealer so has a premium of having to be sold in 'good' conditon and with a Jag warranty which are over £1500 these days.

Thanks guys, i had a chat with the dealer yesterday, you were right about the "ltd edition Sir", "only 50 made, very rare" bollox.
Also mention that its for sale on behalf of a customer, so no warranty etc.
Onwards & upwards!

Are they going to be invoicing you for the car? If so, they're still obliged to warrant it.

Limited editions are good value when new because what they do is pile on the extras at an inclusive price that's less than it would be if you specified the extras individually. However, as has been said, they're pretty irrelevant on the second-hand market.

I think its a ridiculous price, though I'm not a pro I'm an enthusiastic amateur. Come on Phil H this is your metier surely. Remember that overall they built 30,000 coupes and 60,000 convertibles. The 4.0 engine, from my viewpoint, was tainted by the Nikasil business. I wouldn't go over 20k for a fantastic one. You'll buy a 97 for 9k. And they won't give you a warranty? Tell them where to stick it.

That's not to say its not a very nice car, but its time the dealer came to the party talking turkey.
