chassis woes

help i need a chassis for a 1990 s2 does anybody know where there is one laying about mines beyond repair thanks kenp

Who says its beyond repair,usually its the outriggers that go first.These are a straight forward repair.The only bits id say that require a new chassis are if the main box sections have rusted

Ken,
I'd agree with the last post. Typically, you could get both sides outriggers replaced for about 800 to 1000 quid and thats painted ready to go.
If you do go down the chassis route I'd check with tvrcarparts.com/cullompton motors to see what can be done. Don't despair!!

this harks back to a discussion had on this forum a month or two ago... if you have no chassis, what have you got ?
if you buy a new or recon chassis and put it all back together again (or have someone do it for you)it will cost you a packet. if it going to cost that much, then unless the car has some sentimental irrational value to you, you might be as well to start again with another car and sell off the good bits of the old car to help finance the new one...
It comes down to how much skill, time and money you have and whats available out there at the moment and at what price?

i have the skill and the space to rebuild but the chassis is total it requires much more than outriggers,the mail box section is holed and very thin in places the rear shocker top mounts are rotten as is the box section under the tank i could bodge this up but i would not sell it knowing its so bad.The chassis is with dave at tower view who says its the worst one he has ever seen so its another chassis or i will sell off the bits so beware although i knew it had been welded in parts the horrors only really came when the body was lifted off

When you think it through though that's not suhc a huge amount of money, some indies are charging as much as £1500 for body-lift outrigger repair, the jump to having a complete new chassis at that point is getting quite close, especially if you want to attend to everything else at the same time...

And of course since the chassis is made to order by TVR Car Parts (or sitting on a rack) you can have it galvanised

Slow down Rob thats £2350 plus vat just for the chassis not sure if trailing arms are included but i doubt it.Then you have to add the labour to move everything over so i doubt you see any change from £4k

Add to that the cost of other things you would not have otherwise replaced/broken, but dont want to fit to your nice new chassis and you are looking at an even bigger bill... so big, it might be worth looking at another car ? then you could strip and sell the good bits (there are some good bits presumably) off the old car and make an overall saving...

How to make a small fortune ? start with a large fortune and buy a TVR

as you say it adds up to a lot of money there are loads of bits you would not want to use on a new chassis althogh they are servicable the tub/bonnet/interior/engine+box/wheels all very good which make a decision to break it up hard you never know i might get lucky and find something

Don't forget the obvious that your S will be worth alot more than the rest as a new chassis is a MAJOR improvement,unlike tuning mods which add virtually zero to the selling price
