I'm getting a bit cheesed off with my Monster not starting and there are quite a few Jap bikes appearing with freebie 0% Finance, etc.

I'm after a "first" bike as I've only been riding since October and despite the temptation to get a cheap R1 (in yellow? ) being reasonable the 600 Monster is probably fast enough for now.

Reviews in the mags seem to say the Sv650 is "better" than the Bandit and I like the look of the fully faired one which the bandit doesn't offer. The ER6F also seems to fit the bill although I'm not keen on some of the finish. I realise that riding them is the way forward but just wondered if there were some obvious pros/cons for either model. e.g. does one of them lunch it's bearings in a few miles or 3k cambelts changes!

Cheers.

Hi, Used to have a SV (half faired) which I recently changed for Gxsr600. SV is a truly great bike for learning your road craft. It's quick (enough) to be fun and scare you, but not to much. But most importantly they are really nibble so, yes you get left behind on the straights but when you get to the twisty bits you catch-up (anyone can ride fast in a straight line).

I had mine for 3 years from new and had no problems. Yes the front cyclinder gets covered in road muck so you need to fit a front fender extender, to help cut down the cleaning and corrosion. This shouldn't be such a problem on the fully faired version. The seat hurts after a bit, so go for the factory gel seat (about £40).
But the best thing you can do is change the Dunlop shoes, I went for BT014 and it really helps with the grip.

Otherwise, cheap to run, cheap to insure and graet fun.
An all round a great bike

Er6F looks a bit skinny to me. Too narrow!
