HELP !!

I've fallen at the final hurdle.

Handbrake cable loosened, brake hose and handbrake cable detached from the "coiled spring" bit, but the cable passes through a "unit" on the caliper through a metal "holder".

As this "holder" seems firmly attached to the caliper, and the new (refurbished) caliper has only for a large hole to attach the "holder" too, how on earth do I detach it ??

I guess I'm missing the bleedin' obvious, but it's beyond me right now.

Advice much appreciated.

The cable 'outer capping' just pulls back away from an alloy groove does'nt it? Is the outer cable end just stuck to the alloy slot in the caliper? Try kettle of water to break the seal. Pull the cable outer back then slide out the inner cable IIRC.

Don't fully understand this, the only hole for the cable on the callipar has a plastic collar ,once this is loosened it should go through.

OK, I'll try and describe in some more detail.

from the top of the cable there is the metal "loop" that attatches onto the caliper "spring" thing. Moving down, the cable is sleeved with a rubber hose, then where it passes through the circular hole in the caliper is what seems like a metal "sleeve" that is bigger on both sides of the caliper hole, and doesn't seem to come apart.

This is a '94 Chim with non-vented discs, if that helps.

OK, confession time.

just been out to check Dave's "groove" theory, and in fact it's a plastic sleeve which, er, slides out downwards intact with the cable.

somebody delete this post PDQ !!

thanks guys

10 minutes to get that off seemed like a lifetime !

all back on and tested now; just awaiting replacement damper before I can drop that side and tackle the other.

Note to self; remeber to tighten handbrake cable.
