One of my main beams has died and so its time to change the bulb.
How do I get at the bloody thing?
Any info appeciated...

Take the front wheel off, and there should be two or three screws holding the access panel on, it's oval shaped on mine.
You can also do it "blind", with the steering on full lock.
once the front is in the air, full lock and there is plenty of access... no real need to pull the wheel off.
...make sure you have a short Stubby screwdriver if you are leaving the wheel on. By the way you have to fit the bulb in 'blind', just by touch.
Then clean the bulb of finger marks, I have heard these can severely reduce a bulb's life.
Isn't there any way of taking the lens / pod off ?
