I'm off today to buy a nice set of Cokin filter's and it got me thinking (dangerous I know) What do I need to give my pics that Top Gear look? A lot of the filter's they use seem to be be blue, green or purple. Is it as simple as that?

Any PS hints also appreciated!

You can do most of it in photoshop, here's some from the Sunday Service that I did....

I got the vignetting by stacking filters and used a circulasr polarisor at the time then added and coloured grads in photoshop and upped the shadows and saturation when processing the RAW.

Well, might be obvious but work in layers - non-destructive, easy to step back or tweak later especially colours and focussing/blurring.

Always do your sharpening last (or you can even do that in a layer yes )

easy all top gear use are gradient filters draker the better and black out bits as there so close to the camera the edge fuzzes over and gives the effect to do this in photochop can take more time and to those of us who know looks amatureish better of doing it properly with the filters imo

I was using my new 10-20 a lot in Spain this weekend and I've got a fair bit of vignetting (Sigma lens - meant for 1.6 crops but using it on a 1d MkII N so 1.3). I quite like it

Kinda like this?

Top gear cameramen use coloured gel filters blues and browns/reds.
