I'd like to get some advice on a lock and chain for my new Honda 600f

I was thinking a 1.5m lock, alarmed disc lock and ground anchor for the garage.

Oxford do a chain and alarm disc lock for 110 at Heien Gericke - anything better?

I have the datatool, python lock and chain, ground anchor, and disc lock (devil 1000) . all do what they are made for . not the cheapest but seem very well made. Bought them from Riders In bristol as I bought My fazer from them and got a nice discount at the same time

What do you think of an alarm on the disc lock? Overkill?

I could go Devil 100 disc lock and Abus chain - would seem a good combo

My bike is garage at work and home, both have alarms etc... So using what I do may seem already like overkill but in the end buy the best you can afford

Almax are quite good, and have a great story about attack resistance.

Are there any differences regarding insurance premiums? When I had quotes they asked me about which security device I used...

Go for 16mm section chain if you can as not many bolt croppers will open wide enough to accommodate it. Most 12/13mm stuff can be cropped given a fat bastard gyppo and some 5 foot croppers... but it'll still stop the opportunists.

Scucking fum, the lot of them punch

Edit: hucking fell, you'd think with my age and education I'd be able to spell 'accommodate'... banghead

Same you can't fix them to the mains so they fry if they try to cut the chain. Ok I can see just one or 2 drawbacks but hay

There was some posts and here & VD recently by some people who took ruddy great bolt croppers to all sorts of Thatcham approved kit and made mince meat of the lot. Can't remember what they ended up recommending but IIRC it bent their 6ft croppers and wore them out somewhat!

Guess it all depends on what you're looking for: if someone wants it enough they'll get it; so long as you can disuade the opportunists and keep it relatively well hidden I guess you'll keep it for long enough.

Allmax chains and locks are the ones who did the bolt cropper test against other thatcham chains.

Not if you want to keep the bike.

As was mentioned you need at least 16mm links to stand a chance of resisting attack from croppers.

An Almax Immobiliser III or IV is what you need.

Just spoke to the woman at Almax. Impressive stuff and I'm going to get the series 3 1.5m chain with Cisa lock.

Do you think a disc lock for round town is easier as a second option?

I have a 2 meter "English Chain"
Had to resourt to a Plasma cutter to shorten it for my needs as its too big for the average bolt cutter. It weighs an absolute ton !

This was a clip on you tube about them cutting various chains www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC3hFr8p2ck

I use a cheap disc lock with a cheapish big bit of chain and a big padlock. The bike has a thatcham approved alarm system as protection and the chain etc are just to provide a bit more protection and make life a bit harder. However if it is a pro and they want it they will get it.

I would say so.
I recently bought the Almax 1.5m Series III with Squire lock and ground anchor for the garage.
Bike has factory alarm and immobiliser so use disc lock as addition when out and about.

I have an Oxford Boss disc lock, Oxford PhatBarstard chain, another chain and shackle lock when the ST13 is in the garage (which has an electric door and is wired to the house alarm, which phones my mobile if it triggers ); I tend to just use the Boss when out and about. That, the 660lb weight of the thing combined with the HISS ignition immobiliser AND the Thatcham alarm/ immobiliser tend to suggest it'll be a squad of large scumbags with a HIAB who make off with it, rather than Jonny Lightfingers from the local council estate...

The ST11 is similarly lardy (heavier, in fact) and has a Thatcham alarm/immob.with a radio pager, plus whatever selection of locks and chains my dad has wrapped around it... I haven't seen it for a couple of weeks hehe
