It's my brothers 40th and I thought I'd treat him (and me) to a 'drive a F1 car' day! I've seen a few advertised but some look a bit iffy so I was hoping someone might have some experiences of one of these.

Cheers

DON'T go to the Mallory Park "F1 experience" . Total rubbish (in my opinion - I went to it a few years ago)- very de-tuned engines with lousy acceleration in ancient cars with hard tyres and softened brakes. I think there are a couple of French set-ups, eg AGS, which are much more realistic.

I did the Mallory one and it was crap, total waste of money.

If I were you speak to Stephen at track-club, you could get 3 seperate days in a CSR 260, JP1 and ATOM with a top instructer at circuits of your choice and have money left over.

I have heard that there are some better F1 days in France, dont have the link, sorry.

Speak to Magic Torch, he's driven one

They are rather tight and small so being 'funsize' will help

Try this place:

www.racing-school.co.uk/

I know the owner, Peter Barnes - tell him I sent you by all means. Their base is Three Sisters Circuit in Lancashire where they used to run the F1 car but now they do Rockingham too. I rented them a 911 C2 when they were short of a car about 18 months ago, the F1 car had just had a full engine re-build at the time (£16,000 I think) so they do keep up with it's maintenance. They were working with Donington circuit too but not sure if this is still the case since the Rockingham deal.

Easier than going to France I would have thought.

As said earlier I'd avoid Mallory Park, my Dad did that one and it was nothing in comparison to the AGS one I did.

www.drive-a-formula-1.com/drive-a- for more info.

Was over seven years ago, so undoubtedly it's changed. But a great circuit and a decent chance of good weather.

ETA: I did this one (the package) it wasn't the semi-automatic at the time though.

Driving the Peugeout 905 on the AGS deal appeals far more than driving a F1 car.

Why doesnt anyone offer the same deal driving a 956 or 935 for instance?

Went in one with Derek Bell driving, no comparison to a F1 car for me.

They did passenger rides in a LM style car too, I'd rather spend the money on extra F1 laps though.

Sounded like a good idea...but 2K for a JP1 for the day without an instructor...therefore the 3 cars would cost £4100.00 plus the cost for instructors which would not leave me any money left over!!

I've seen a couple in France and they do seem better deals so thanks for the advice.
