louder, LOUDER,
Discussion
Picking up the Chim next week but exhaust note seems a little tame ( especially after my obnoxious V - Twin Aprilia 1000 ). Because my neighbours "really love" (ahem) the sound of my 2 - Wheeler, its only fair that they should "appreciate" and "enjoy" my new purchase too !
So, quick opinions with regard to more volume AND Bassier tone. Should I:
A - Go with straight through pipes ( a la Austec / Fernhurst )
OR
B - Cherry Bomb it ( Offords ).
Also, does anyone know of anywhere / anyone in the South - West ( Bristol / Bath area ) able to perform either of these "surgeries"?
Cheers Gang

Excellent! Just off the ring-road then! Are you happy with it Craig?
Oh yeah. Personally I don't think it's to loud on tick over and not intrusive / tiresome on long journey's either, although when you give it some it does roar. Must say, I still like the sound of an original system though.

Do they service your car as well?
No, they come across a bit like Webbs, I don't think I'd trust them that far.
I last used Richard aka Dulford Automotive, bit further to go, but at least you can trust him and you know the work is getting done.
This might help quote from Andy W who has the straight thru decatted chim and my Offord conversion with cats still in
"We did a sound test between standard, offord cherry bombs and my straight thru with pre cats removed.
1st run 2nd run
Standard 110db n/a
Offords 107db 117db
Straight thru 110db 120db
2nd run was once they had warmed up a bit more.
Offords sounds deeper more basey than standard...straight thru sounds erm...loud."
The offord job sounds the business and doesn't get tiring on motorway when cruising

I am also looking to do the cherry bomb conversion, does anyone know what the increased Db is?
I currently get a 94/95 Db reading at trackdays and don't want to end up having to use silencer cans if I make this mod.
P.S. Hi noobie
I see you're a fellow local

Two tests now... 119db at half a metre @ 5k, then 112db @ 3k. Cherries and full decat.

Well done fellas, knew I could rely on you! Think I might have to venture up to Cambridgeshire in the not too distant future then.
Ooooh....Hamish, what happened to the Ocean Haze Griff? That's some pretty aggressive polishing you've done there!

Slippery road conditions and in the wrong frame of mind to be driving the tiv, shoulda taking the espace that night.(parted company with the grey stuff doing nearly 3 figures)
I'm not given to blubbering but when the insurers said it was a right off, I did. I loved that car and especially the colour (I plan to respray this one when funds allow).Waynester said:

Offords is best. Well worth £130.
Cost me £160 yesterday..
Still the same price, £130:00 off the car. My brother and I live "Up North" and after hearing a chimp which was converted at Offords at The Thunderball, we where determined to have the back box fettled after many years deliberating. Instead of driving both cars there and back, we whipped the systems off and lobbed them in the trusty Mondy Estate. Sunday morning, quick hour on the car ramps and job done, definitely worth getting done. Now sounds like a proper V8, tick over and low revs, lovely burble, 4000 RPM and above changes to a vicious howl! Edited by Big Ashy on Friday 9th March 22:32
