An everyday / useable kit car?
Discussion
Hi
I'm in the market for a new car and I was just wondering whether there are any quick kit cars that are reliable and could feasibly be used for "everyday" use?
TBH, I only do about 5k miles per year. I work and live in london during the week and tend to head back home to Wiltshire at the weekends. But I'd like a car that was dependable and has reasonable all weather gear. I wouldn't mind the odd bit of maintenance, but wouldn't want it to be a constant hassle.
I guess re budget, perhaps £6k. But not really that strict.
Thanks for any thoughts.
Best,
Mat

It depends on your priorities. You could feasibly use a Seven-type daily, but it'd be a compromise in terms of practicality and would test your patience in the winter. A more practical option would be something like a Quantum H4 (under budget), but it wouldn't be as much fun to drive as a Seven.
Adam.
Adam.
Earlier GTM's (Coupe or Rossa) are perfectly feasible and well within your budget. Midas/Mini Marcos or Marcos Martina would also be fine, or there's the Marlin Berlinetta is you fancy something more retro looking.
I used to do more miles than you with a Westfield as my only means of transport, but it helps if you are a Hard Northern Bastard for something that hardcore. I've turned into a Soft Shandy Drinking Southern Jessie since then, so I'd want something with usable weather gear, these days!

Ok - I've had a look.
I like the marlin, a lot.
The Libra looks good too. But can't seem to find any for sale. There's only two on PH. One's v expensive and one's v cheap.
Westfield might be a good way to go, although I've heard varying reviews about the chassis. It might be worth paying the extra and popping for a real 7. Thoughts?
Also - anyone got any thoughts on the Fisher Fury?

Fisher Fury is a Jeremy Philips design and consequently handles well enough to win tons of races.
Possible problem for everyday use though is lack of a boot, so you might like consider the Stylus, which is effectively a slightly more practical Fury. www.pistonheads.com/roadtests/doc.asp?c=112&i=7351

When you consider that the "very expensive" one is a V6 and the seller is fairly accurate when he says that it is almost £30k new ex-factory then it's a bargain. Especially since, despite what the advert suggests, it's been for sale for months and the seller may take an offer.
