Starter Motor Removal

Hi all

My Starter Motor went t@ts up this morning, so basically the question is, what is the easiest way to remove it

also any recomendations as to where to get a new one or is a refurb best

Nigel had mine sorted in Bradford and so far after two other starters its worked a treat :touchingwoodicon: if you cannot sort it in your neck of the woods I will pm the details to you...

Read an article on the starter the other day so I will dig it out and add it to this post.

Don't know if there is any difference between 4.2 or 4.5 , but managed to change the starter on my 4.2 in about 3 hours , without removing fuel rails or coil packs .

Many years of working in dark holes on aircraft proved to be a distinct advantage

I changed mine on a 4.5. Pig of a job, but managed to do it with just a couple of intake pipes removed.

Got the bugger off, the designer must have been havin a laugh, sending it to a local auto electrician to see if it can be refurbished so fingers crossed it wont be too expensive

As long as its only burnt out on the windings, it's repairable.

Ive had an update from the Auto Electrician and he's told me that the windings have shattered and burnt out so i guess i'm lucky

the parts should arrive on monday so i should have it back on the road by the weekend

just had my starter back, the guy said it had jammed in the brushbox because something that was rivoted had come loose, all repaired for a grand total of £65 and guarenteed for 12 months

will fit it tomorrow
