I own a 450, but have no idea whether my mpg is good (unlikely), bad or indifferent.

It ranges from 15 (having fun around quieter roads) to 24 on steady motorway drives.

Average is just over 20.

Is it worth getting the engine checked, or does this seem about right.

I have a '97 500 and my average is just under 19. So you sound about right.

Does not sound too bad to me either. I have a 450 and on short hard runs I can see single digits but always on a motorway run am getting 25-30.

Last year the mpg on my Griff 500 ranged between 13 and 21.5 mpg.

Never had a steady motorway or A road run though, I'd guess at 24-25 at a steady 80/90 ish on the motorway ?

Chim 400 - average 18-19mpg (work run - twisty B roads etc), worst 12mpg when airflow meter was playing up. Also managed once to get about 30mpg - constant speed of about 60 along A-roads (did over 300 miles on 1 tank!)

Similar to Tobs. Also a 400. City Commuting about 16mpg. Steady Mway anything up to about 25mpg. Combined about 20mpg.

The lowest I have had was 12.5. And I didn't think I was being that aggressive.. Certainly not track work. And certainly dented the average.

Thank you all for easing my mind. - Everytime I ask these kind of questions I feel I actually bought a half decent version..

Suns out this weekend, have to see how low I can get the mpg evildriving

From a 400 (93 vintage), 24/28 running A/B roads. 28/31 motorways.

However, try a track day, hood up about 9 mpg and hood down about 8.9 mpg............

I recently filled up with Tesco Super Unleaded which according to the pub is 99 RON. My Chim loves it, runs smoother and seems to be returning better mpg - done 175 miles on just under 3/4 tank! Last tank was 97 RON and after the same number of miles I had used over 3/4 tank... Wasn't hanging around on either tanks..

Anyone else share the same views of Tesco 99 RON fuel as I generally don't like to use supermarket stuff but on this occasion the car seems to love it?

Yep, i use Tesco Super 99 Ron. Not had any problems with it and car seems to love it - certainly no noticable difference to Optimax/V-Power and a tad cheaper too. I actually think BP Ultimate s the best, my 400 seems to pull a bit stronger on it, but it's also the mos expensive.

As for MPG, until i replaced the lambda sensors, i was getting about 13 mpg, but now back up to 18-19. Could get more if i drove more sensibly, but the car just loves to be driven hard!

Max was 30mpg on a motorway trip. Lowest was 9 mpg on a Car Limits/First Lotus airfield training day!!!
