I'm pretty sure James promised TV coverage this year! At the time I assumed it would be on satellite at 3am but nevertheless TV coverage is something you can sell to potential sponsors. Indeed, my sponsorship package says we are on TV so I'm hacked off to read the news report on the EERC.
I know TV is expensive and I'm not suprised James only sold 37 copies of the 24 hour DVD but I really thought coverage was in place. In fact, I'm sure Motors TV actually advertised Britcar on their "mosiac" of all the motor racing they cover.

James confirmed that there would be television coverage at the dinner.
I think the club needs to understand what TV coverage brings. It`s not about DVD sales, most people will record off the telly. It raises the profile of the club, for the club and encourages more people to come racing generating more money for the club.
Sponsors are virtually impossible to bag at this level of racing, that said anything that encourages or aids teams to get sponsorship should be encouraged as it allows them to afford substantial entry fees. British GT has very good coverage and is shown on terrestrial chanels which gives good exposure to everyone involved.
The reason the Dutch Super Car championship has been so successful is that it gets good promotion on Motors TV. We see it, we like it and so we go racing in it. Were it not for the telly we would never have heard of it.
James has a whole season of full grids this year and that will be in part due to the coverage received by the club on Motors TV over Christmas. It should not be seen as an indulgence for the drivers or teams, although it is nice to see yourself on the TV and does influence the direction people go when deciding where to race. Ultimately the club benefits more than individual drivers in raising it`s profile.

I don't think the EERC site is dictating whether there will be TV coverage or not. It is asking it's members for their thoughts on the subject which is a positive thing. I think that if one (The EERC) is spending circa £60k on TV coverage and the Club's return is only £370 then, as a club, it needs to review the reasons behind doing it. If the members (as a whole) feel that they 'need' it for sponsors then maybe the club needs to review its spend on the acquisition of the footage, and maybe look at a TV sponsor to benefit from incar images and TV 'Bumpers' from the programmes.

The club's return on the TV coverage is not £370 though is it? TV coverage was used by James as a feature of the 2007 Britcar Championship to attract entries. The outlay helps James achieve full grids.

If I sold you a house for an agreed sum on the basis I'd fit a new kitchen for you, how would it look if, having taken your money, I then started a debate about whether I should really fit the kitchen as, well, it was going to cost me a fair old whack. I just find it really odd.
Next we'll have another cryptic statement about how the websites are at it again. To preempt it, how about James or Claire confirm, or otherwise, that there is TV this year.

I don't think The EERC are saying they're not going to fit your kitchen. Just asking whether there is a more beneficial/efficient way of fitting it, or maybe even get someone else to pay for an even better kitchen.......with granite work tops!! 
I am not in a position to speak on behalf on EERC but it seems clear to me that James has aired his opinion and is asking our's, hence the request to send you comments to his email, which I, for one, have done! May I suggest you do the same....?

I'm currently chez Tucker and he says that the TV coverage will happen. It costs about £500 per team per year ie about £40,000. He'd like to enhance that but would need more sponsorship to do so.

Having been involved with the sport on the Commerical side I can say it is a lot more than getting on TV to getting potential sponsors interested in parting with their marketing budgets.
I was involved with managing a well known British Touring Car Driver and dispite the fact that the British Touring Car Championship pulled in 20,000 spectators per race meeting and had then ITV 1 Coverage very few were even interested and those that were would only be after paying silly small amounts.
The problem is Motorsport sponsorship at the moment is bad value for money compared to other sports ie Football the amount going to that is just amazing.

Racing dude, I comnpletely agree with you. However TV coverage helps in the quest for money. The point I was making is TV coverage was promised, I put together some sponsorship proposals saying there would be coverage and then it seemed as though there would not. It wouldbevery unproffessional to go back to the negotiating table and say "sorry, no TV - oh and by the way we need £10k" (or whatever!).
Now James has clarified the situation its OK.
